It's Campmeeting Time! - 06/17/01 12:14 AM

Is it Campmeeting Time in your area, or will it soon be?

Please post about this in your area, giving us dates, times, locations, speakers, theme, etc.

Who knows that some of us may finally get to meet one another at one of these Campmeetings.

Man/Sask Campmeeting is July 13 - 21. I'll be there!! Good line up of speakers, but do not have them on hand, will post later. Although, looking at your line-ups, I want to go there too! Can't though. I am looking forward to campmeeting this year, I have never spent the whole week at one before so this will be a first for me. Please pray that my husband can join me for the full week!

I'm glad to see they're having the Man-Sask Campmeeting later in the year.

The best one ever was held in 1990 when the General Conference pushed the date forward. Usually they hold it during the rainy-cold season near the end of June.

One year there were 3 straight days where the mercury never went past 7 and rains flooded the campground.

Other than that, they usually have top-notch speakers at Man-Sask. A week is a good time for the "retreat" experience. While I was there, pastors would spend over 2 weeks--a preparation work week, the Camp meeting, and sometimes a workers meeting right after.

Here in Ontario it's only for one weekend (one day, actually, Sabbath, is the best attended).

Why begin a new topic when you can resurrect an old one. [Big Grin]

It is obviously campmeeting time again in our part of the world. [Smile]

Pastor just posted about the Ontario Campmeeting as a new and separate topic.

I now want to tell you a little bit about our Maritime Campmeeting.

Theme:
The Last Mile of the Way.

Date: July 26 to August 3, 2002.

Celebrating: 50 Years of Campmeeting.

Evening Speaker: Randy Roberts, Senior Pastor, Loma Linda University Church.

Now it is your turn to tell us about your campmeeting.

Ontario's getting Ed Reid, Barry W. Bussey and a few dynamic youth speakers. Please pray that it won't be as hot as the previous years. Ambulance usually are quite busy at the main tent on Sabbath when the temperature approaches the 30's (or 90's in the old system).

Re: It's Campmeeting Time! - 07/10/02 02:54 AM

Man/Sask is very blessed this year. We had the Melashenko family for the first weekend, which, of course, (for you who know these things) includes Lonnie from Voice of Prophecy and Joedy from Quiet Hour. The cool thing about these two brothers having both ministries is that they can work in conjunction with each other on some new ideas that couldn't be done singly with either group. It could turn out to be interesting! The Melashenko family was all together - 3 generations of them as a tribute to the parents. Man/Sask being their original home, I am very grateful to God that they chose it to be the campmeeting to have everyone at.

We also had Jim Nix and Marvin Moore, as well as Brian Yeager (of the eXtreme Team) for the youth/young adults (although I did not hear him speak). I was very sorry that I was unable to stay the week. I could have soaked up those two speakers all week long and been happy. Guess I have to get the tapes. Jim Nix was speaking on the history of our church, and I am very curious as to his presentations, I love history and my husband and I would both love to know more of the SDA history and growth of our message.

Joedy Melashenko (for Quiet Hour) has a new honour out for Pathfinders, which we will definitely be doing next year! It's called "Dimes for India" and all the Pathfinders have to do is save a dime a day for one year to earn the honour. The money goes to build churches in India. Scary thought is that it will take 250 Pathfinders to build one church. But, the least we can do is start. I would love to incorporate more mission work in my Pathfinder club - even if it is only local mission work and fundraising for events like this. There is so much that my kids could do if given the opportunity. Pathfinders should be a place of ministry, not just to the kids, but BY the kids! Now, to get them to catch the fire.....

I think from now on Campmeeting will be my summer holidays! I am always sorry to have to leave just as it is getting started. Next year we're staying the whole 10 days again!

Once again Campmeeting Time is approaching us in our neck of the woods. [Smile]

Kenneth Cox is going to be our evening speaker.

Barry Bussey is going to be there with us all week giving us presentations about Religious Liberty Issues in Canada and most likely also beyond the borders ooof Canada.

There will also be other speakers/presenters during the who week of our Maritime Campmeeting which will be held from Friday evening, July 25, 2003 to Saturday evening, August 2, 2003.

Re: It's Campmeeting Time! - 05/29/03 05:51 AM

We're going to get Jan Paulsen, President of the General Conference. In all the planning to get him here, it has been amazing to me to see how tight his schedule is.

Twenty or so years ago (even during the time of Neal Wilson) GC presidents could just "hang out" with students at Adventist Colleges or in the churches. Those days are gone. From what I understand, Dr. Paulsen will fly to Toronto on an "all nighter" for the Sabbath morning service and then be whisked away that very afternoon. A typically busy pastor on the Sabbath, I guess...

As this is for the purpose of news and announcements, I removed this post but left it in a copy of this topic that I have now placed in the Fellowship Room for continued discussion there. - Daryl [Smile]
