According to Wikipedia, "The Nephilim were the offspring of the sons of God and the daughters of men before the Deluge, according to Genesis 6:1-4." The way the narrative is written, quoted hereafter, gives the impression at first reading that there were two sets of beings (careless reading which has led many to harbour ridiculous ideas), but read it again and think carefully. There were not two sets but ONE. Highlighted:

"Now it came to pass, when MEN began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to THEM, that THE SONS OF GOD saw the daughters of MEN, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose."

To see that there was only ONE set of beings, consider the genealogy listed in the previous chapter 5. Notice that MEN are multiplying without women (i.e. the men are sons of God) and daughters are being born to them (i.e. the women are the daughters of MEN/SONS OF GOD). In the context of Genesis therefore, the MEN are sons of God but their daughters are their own. Think of Adam having no earthly parents, but Eve being of Adam's body. And that each son follows after Adam as God said to him, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother ..." If a man leaves his parents then he becomes like Adam, without earthly head but under God and so a son of God and his wife and children are his.

The Bible then is painting a picture of a world of good-looking, tall, sophisticated people who were caught in a web of pornography, uninhibited sexual and violent entertainment and practices, without self-control. Matthew 24:37-39

It's amazing, isn't it?
