Church Service Worship Format? - 12/21/00 02:08 AM

I find that our churches don't follow the same format in our worship services, therefore, I would be interested in knowing the format of your worship service in your church from beginning to end.

I will begin first by sharing our worship format.

1 - We begin with a musical prelude.
2 - The participants then enter onto the platform singing the song Majesty in the congregation rises and sings it also.
3 - The pastor or the speaker then has the invocation.
4 - We have a Songs of Praise time in which two songs are song either from the hymnal or the praise song book.
5 - We then sing the opening hymn.
6 - The Scripture Reading comes next.
7 - Prayer request time follows.
8 - We then sing the prayer song As We Come To You In Prayer from our SDA Church Hymnal #671.
9 - The prayer is then given.
10 - Tithes & Offerings are next.
11 - The Children's Story comes after that.
12 - Special Music.
13 - The Message by the pastor or speaker.
14 - Closing Hymn.
15 - The Benediction ends the service.
16 - Musical postlude as the participants leave the platform.

Here is the order of our church services:

Prelude, usually from a CD

Welcome and praise: the singing of praise songs led by the guitarists in the church, followed by a welcome message from an elder. The elders and speaker usually go to the platform during the final praise song.

Theme for worship: congregation sings "Open Our Eyes," which is printed in the bulletin for the benefit of visitors.

Invocation

Praise & Prayer Requests from the congregation

Prayer: both preceded and followed by the singing of a response called "Quiet Moment"

Return of tithes & offerings

Children's time: when the pastor is present, he leads the children in singing some of their favorite Sabbath School songs before the story

Special Music

Sermon

Closing Hymn

Benediction

Postlude by pianist or from a CD
