“Terminal,” said the doctor at last,
“We know of no cure that works.
But a faith healer, it’s rumored, from out of the past
Has healed a few by his quirks.”
“But we don’t recommend this self-made physician.
He really is unscientific.
We recommend one of men of position
Who has dealt with many this sick.”
“But,” cried the patient, “you said there’s no cure;
So why should I go to your pro?
It’s healing I want, to be clean and pure.
Where is your cure for my woe?”
“Now, now,” said the doctor, “Don’t become distraught.
We’re trying to find the cure.
And perhaps if fortune should befall your lot,
The remedy won’t long be obscure.”
“Vain hope,” cried the patient, “I’ve no time to wait.
Tell me, where may I find this good man?”
“Well, no one has seen him around as of late,
But they say that this is his plan.”
Then he handed the patient a very old book.
It was battered and looked quite used.
“There,” said the doctor with a most contempt look,
“From my services you are excused.”
The patient took to the book joyfully
With the hope of finding direction.
Thinking the while of the doctor (“What a bully —
He even tried to use deception.” )
The patient is Sinner, the doctor the World;
The book is the Word of the Lord.
It tells of the cure in its pages unfurled;
One that we all can afford.
Vain hope is all that this world has to give.
It has no cure for sin.
Be happy, be merry, forget sin, just live!
They don’t see there’s a battle to win.
Sin sick soul, seek the Master today;
Give Him your worry and woe.
He’s promised to walk by your side all the way—
Never leave you alone here below.
