December sermons - 12/02/00 09:51 AM

The more I study scripture, the more I am convinced that the real point of "Christmas" is being missed if the focus of sermons during this time of year is imited to that one piece of God's master plan that we call the Christmas story. It is rather like telling the story of Columbus and stopping when he got funding from the queen. The point of the story of Columbus is the discovery of the "new world". The point of the story of Christ is the opportunity to live in a "new earth." You don't stop at the birth of the opportunity, you carry the story through to its purpose. Therefore, I propose that the proper sermon topic for December is the Second Advent, as made possible by the First Advent. What do you think?

This sounds like an interesting idea.

Since I have the message in our church for Sabbath, December 23rd, I may entertain the thought of developing such a kind of a sermon.
