Mad-cow protein discovered in sheep - 05/24/04 04:40 PM

quote:
"Prions, the misfolded proteins that are widely believed to cause brain-wasting diseases, have been found in sheep muscle, scientists announced Sunday.

"But the scientists emphasized that the finding did not mean that lamb or mutton posed a danger to humans."

Wonder how long it'll be before they discover that this *does* pose a danger to humans.

John, one of the most fascinating books about this whole scenario is the following link.
Deadly Feasts

It talks about how it all started; and how it goes from one animal to another = sheep to cow to deer to mink to pig to chicken, etc. Whatever kind of animal they feed the "madcow" brain to, dies of the same thing.

At the end of the book, WHO is estimating that between the years 2012 and 2015 millions of people are going to die from this.

It is well worth the time to read it, and getting a used copy for less than US $1.00 is a great price.

John and Will,

You're welcome [Smile]

After you've read it, how about giving a short book report in this thread?

I recall listening to a researcher from conell university several months ago on a college radio station talking about how mad-cow came from a disease found in sheep called 'scrapies' (not sure of spelling, but thats how it sounds). Since the left over carcases of the slaughtered animals are recycled (soylent green for the animal kingdom?) and put into commercial feed this is how the cows got it.. A cow version of scrapies.

Anyways a report will be given right John [Big Grin]

God Bless,
Will
