Answered Prayer? - Let's Share! - 11/09/00 12:15 AM

My head is spinning!! God continually answers prayers left, right and centre!! Let's share our daily prayer answers here!!

For starters, on Friday, November 3, 2000, I was approached by my boss with an offer of a promotion - catch was that I had to decide who I wanted to work for (I had the choice of two lawyers, neither of which I know very well)! Being pressured to make an immediate decision. . . I asked for 1/2 hour, e-mailed my husband to tell him to call me and bowed my head for a moment of prayer because I knew that I could not make a wise decision without God's help. My husband and I discussed the decision (with me doing most of the talking because he knew even less than I did about the matter). In the end, I made my decision and passed it along to my boss, and I feel completely at peace with my choice, God has given me confidence knowing that He will bless my work and my new work relationship(s). Praise God!

The position itself is an answer to prayer because I have been praying for the last month that God would open doors to allow me to stay with my current firm and to help me enjoy my work more. God will always answer us when we ask in His will!

What? No one has had their prayers answered recently? Well, I have another to share. A friend of mine has been praying that she would be able to resolve some extremely difficult differences with a close relative of hers, they had been having "issues" for about a year and unable to put them behind them. As she prayed about it, another "situation" arose that caused her to become angry and need to confront her relative.

As they began to talk (she was able to calmly discuss the matter instead of erupting - another answer!!), they realized that many of the other issues were underlying this one also. Once both parties had cooled off, they were able to discuss all the issues that had arisen in the last year and discuss them in a way that brought forgiveness and understanding to their hearts, bringing about a healing and peace to their relationship, causing them to be friends once again. And, ironically enough, causing me to also become friends with the relative again.

Satan tries so many things to keep us from those who are good in our lives - including causing pain and misunderstanding between others which falls back on other relationships. I love both these ladies and rejoice that I can share both of their friendships rather than having to chose one or the other! Had this new situation not arisen, things would have turned out a lot differently! Praise God for unexpected circumstances!

Frankly, when this matter initially came up, the anger that it caused concerned me and I was afraid it would be another thorn in their side and get in the way of their healing the relationship - instead it was the catalyst to healing.

I look forward to reading your stories of answered prayer!

4 years ago our daughter when off to Avondale College with $500 to do a 4 year course. She was 16-1/2 and had tons of faith. Work was not readily available, but she hung in there, and managed one semester at a time. Somehow she was able to scrape up enough to meet her needs. In 2 weeks time she is graduation with honors.
My husband and I always dreamed the impossible dream of going to her graduation.
Recently our 2 sons gave us the plane tickets to travel to the Graduation. It came as a complete surprise to us, and had not been planned by them. They were 'moved' to do it.
God, our God, who has all the answers to our impossibilities.

Finding this forum is an answer to prayer. For years I have been an isolated "small church" pastor. This means that there's not much contact with Adventist people outside of our immediate district. Of course I enjoyed the fellowship of other pastors in my area, but it's good to connect with so many more lay believers!

Two days ago when I had a funeral, I mentioned some of the prayers that came the way of a woman who had lost her daughter (see prayer forum). God surely worked in that instance! The church member was quite touched that we should think to pray for her and her family. The prayers I asked for this incident were answered miraculously too.

Yes, I see this forum as a concrete answer to prayer and a blessing to all.

I need to start writing down prayed prayers & their answers. I let too many memories worth keeping slip & keep too many memories worth permanently forgetting.

In our day to day lives we tend to forget to ask for guidance and protection on our daily walk.
I finally started to ask God for protection as I go out on our local roads, and He answered in a way I didn't ask, but He did preserve me and my wife last night.
We received a call from a friend of ours and we were on our way to see the new grandparents [their first] and they wanted us there.

We got about half way there, and became intimately acquainted with a deer.
It took out the front of our van and so, we are ,again, without dependable transportation.

But, no one was hurt.
Just before we hit the stupid thing, traffic was thick, a car coming at us had the halogen lights and made it difficult to see that side of the road, we hit the deer, and traffic cleared out until we got to the side of the road.
Even with my CHF, I managed to walk a mile or mile and a half looking for a phone.
By the grace and strength of God I made it.
I couldn't find a phone, and when I got backto my van, the police were there and a man stopped and used his phone to call a wrecker.
I asked for protection, and I got it.
What do you think?

Yes, the Lord does protect us.

In my younger days I was hit from behind by a car thrusting my car off the highway towards a good sized tree.

All I had time to say is, "Not now Lord."

The car came to a stop about a body's width from that tree.

Isn't it amazing how He answers our prayers even when we don't ask for anything specific and when we only have time to say a breif sentence, not necessarily a request, or was it.
Amen, Daryl, He does amazing things with the least request.
Isn't He great?

Praise God!!! He works in our lives daily!

However, as Ed pointed out we as a human race have a tendency to forget the good and remember the bad.

We must keep in mind that we are to remember what God has done for us throughout our lives and to count our many blessings. The Israelites were admonished time after time to remember what God had done for them. They were given holidays to remember how and when they were given freedom from the Egyptians. We were given the rainbow to remember God's promise that he would never destroy the earth by flood, we were given communion and the foot-washing service as a memorial of Christ's sacrifice for us, the list is continuous.

Let us continually thank God, as David did in the Psalms, for all that He does for us!

This morning my mother called to tell me that my daughter's car had stalled on her way to work, right in the traffic lane on the freeway. The car's battery was dead. Heavy snow was impairing both visibility and traction, and cars were passing her on both sides, without slowing down much. We were praying for her, and soon a man stopped to help her, while my mother called 911 to get a tow truck there for her. They towed her to her place of employment, Sam's Club, where she purchased a new battery to replace the dead one. We are so thankful to God for keeping her safe.

It is wonderful to read these testimonies. Definitely a place I would want to refer others to!

I was just thinking how miraculous is the fact that I am writing this note today. I should be dead many times over! But I'm still here! How does God do it?

Well, one little way happened recently when I was, as a subcontractor, hurting for want of more work. I did like Sarah in her above post, and prayed that morning. I got in my van and drove the 12 km into town, and I didn't tell anyone at the time...but I didn't have work to go to and also, I had only enough gas in the van to get to town; but not enough to come back; and I had not one red cent to buy more gas. I didn't een know how I would get home!

Well, as I was driving into town, my cell phone rang, and before the day was out; I had a nice wad of cash in my pocket! So I ate that night! Praise God!

Re: Answered Prayer? - Let's Share! - 01/30/01 07:23 AM

God continually answers our prayers, and I have been noticing this more and more lately. We need, of course, to remember our prayers in order to see the answers we receive to them, but that only helps and enables us to continually keep Christ in our thoughts because if we focus on looking for the answers, we are focusing on who we asked!

My husband, Markell, and I decided that even though we don't have much while he's in school, that we need to give more in offerings. So, we made the decision to increase our offerings to 5% of my gross wage and put the matter in God's hands. Markell prayed "Lord, we are giving back to you and trusting in Your promise to provide for us. As you challenge us to in Malachi, we are testing you in this."

The next day was payday and, as usual, I went to the bank to withdraw our tithe and offerings. I was shocked to discover that we were more than $100 short for our rent this month. It worried me, and I almost didn't tell my husband because he worries a lot, but God impressed upon me that I had to because what kind of a test would it be if Markell didn't know the whole story? Markell surprised me and was very calm, although he suggested we take the money from his student loan. I said, "No, we won't need to" then he asked where we would get the money and I reminded him that God would provide, were we not testing Him in this matter?

Sabbath morning we put our offering in the plate and placed it in God's hands. After Sabbath was over, I telephoned my sister who told me that Markell had received an envelope from an old employer (Markell hadn't worked for this company for 8 or 9 months!). The envelope had come through the mail unsealed, so she had sealed it and set it aside for us. Her youngest son, however, had gotten ahold of the envelope and opened it, spilling the contents and she said it looked like a cheque! I said "WHAT?" and asked her to look for me. Sure enough, she came back to the phone and said it was a "Payroll Refund" and was for more than $200.00 - enough to pay tithe & offerings with and still cover our rent deficit!

God is SOOOOO amazing! I ran to tell Markell and we could not help but jump and shout for joy and praise God! My sister didn't know when she could bring it to us, but I placed that in God's hands as well. Surprise, surprise, late Sunday evening, my sister shows up at the door. While I don't usually thank God for ear infections, her oldest son had an ear ache, so they brought him into the hospital to get it checked out and decided that since they were in town they would stop to see us and drop off the cheque at the same time!

Praises be to God!

Re: Answered Prayer? - Let's Share! - 01/30/01 08:03 AM

I believe prayer does change things.
A few weeks ago my older brother who is living with us in a shed near our home spent some time in hospital. He gave me a list of things he wanted brought into him on my next visit. One item was very important, his medical records (he has an ulcer on his leg, for over 20 years, reason for hositalization)
I had searched everywhere for them but to no avail. I had the kids search, but when irt was time to go they had still not been found. I said to the kids lets pray, within 2 mins. I found them where I had looked many times before. The question I asked myself was why, and the answer I believe was to show the kids that our Lord hears our prayer and if His name can be glorified then the answer will come back to us. When bro. Ray came home I told him the story, he not being a Christian found it hard to comprehend but was still glad to get his records.

Then one Friday as we were going out the gate
I said to my young boy of 8 years that it is about time we prayed as we had not had a sale of vegies all day. He prayed and when we got back home 5 callers had come in and at 6.30pm after taking the unsold produce in cars were still coming in. Again the Lord's name was glorified to my young boy.
We can say God does answer prayer.
