Did the second generation learn from the first generation?

Not as much as they could and should have learned.

They must have learned something, as they made it into the Promised Land, whereas the first generation didn't.

Joshua had to fight with the COI as much as he had to fight with the wicked inhabitants of Canaan.

Unlike their fathers, the 2nd generation didn't whine when they were told to go in.

He had a hard time motivating them to continue fighting until the Promised Land was conquered according to God's will. In fact, they never did finish the job.
