Any Downloadable Software to Create Computer Sound Files From Taped Messages, Etc.?

Does anybody know of any good downloadable software that will enable me to transfer taped cassette messages from my stereo system into my computer as wav, mp3, etc. files?

I downloaded the free trial version from the 2nd of the three links that you placed there.

I am also aware that Avalee previously downloaded some software that seems to be working good for her, therefore, I will also be interested in her response to my question as she may have something even better.

I researched this last year as i wanted to get the Japanese Bible and 1858 Great Controversy from cassette to CD. I finally went with Goldwave. It is very powerful.

For professional quality of software tho, Cool Edit Pro is probably the best. Soundforge is rated pretty high too.

Goldwave is shareware, and after i think 30 days or so, you can do 150 actions before it starts incessantly reminding you to pay up. I've written the author to find out how to pay easily from Japan, but received no response, so i usually close the program after 150 actions and re-open it.

If you want to hear a bit of what i did, look at this page near the top for Great Controversy audio. I compressed it down quite a bit for the mp3 version on the internet, but the original WAV version is very nice

that do several things with making wav files from recordings.

I've used only the one that makes wav files, and then I downloaded the REAL producer that makes those wav files into REALaudio files.

Turtle Beach makes good sound cards too, by the way. A good alternative for those who have gotten tired of Creative products (Sound Blaster).

Daryl just ran across this. I have tried almost all of the above mentioned software and I finally ended up with GoldWave. I ended up buying it as I like it the best.

Daryl that is a good one too...when I first started that is the one I tried first as it came with my computer already loaded. MusicMatch that is. I use it for playing my music now.
