Requesting Special Prayer!

Requesting Special Prayer! - 06/20/09 10:52 PM

On July 9th I will be having major surgery done at a hospital in Reno, NV. I live out in the boondocks of the Easern Sierra Mountains in California and the nearest and best doctor and hospital is in Reno, thus the reason for the surgery there.

What I should have done years ago and did not has led me to where I am now and the need of this life saving surgery. Though I had made some good health changes ten years ago it was not enough to stop what was going on inside from the years of poor eating habits and lack of exercise I did not do the years before.

But God is good. Though I should be dead right now with the problem I have my body has created a natural bypass system so that my blood is still flowing throughout my body which is why I am still alive.

Though this little natural bypass artery is allowing the blood to go through my body it does not give me the full impact of the blood I should be getting, thus I am in a lot of pain due to claudication.

This surgery I will be having will help allow my blood to flow more effectively with what is called a Dacron artificial bypass implanted around the blocked area I now have in my abdominal aorta. If successful I should have a better more active and pain free life.

I will be in the hospital for seven days and four weeks of rehab up there before I can come home, unless my recovery is faster than expected.

So if you are inclined to do so your prayers during that time and the recovery will be greatly appreciated.

The second request for prayer has to do with my hearing loss that I am now experiencing. From what I was told by the House Ear Institute that I more than likely was a normal hearing baby when I was born, but because I was born six weeks early and was put in an incubator I lost a lot of my hearing.

When this was made known to my family was when I was seven years old when I had my first hearing tests. My right ear was and is now profoundly hard of hearing, but over the years my left ear went from moderate/severe to severe/profound to now profound.

For some reason two months ago my hearing just dropped from the little I was able to hear with my hearing aid in that ear. Now I can hear voices only as noises and cannot make any any words as I could before combined with lib preading.

Several weeks ago I went to see an ear doctor and he suggested applying for a cochlear implant, so I have been following through with that. It is expensive and is like the transplant system in that certain people are allowed to be qualified to get one. The doctor felt I was a good candidate for the implant.

I had decided to see another ear doctor as a second opinion and after his examination he feels that I might be able to get back what hearing I had lost and put off the painful surgery and recovery of an implant for now.

For now I am still going through the process of the implant program such as getting the brain MRI and other tests required to go forward, but also following through with this doctor with the tests that he has requested to see what can be done to help me hear better sooner.

Over the years I had always thought that I would have been better off being deaf than having partial hearing loss as I had for so many years, but now I know the answer and because I have been in the hearing world all my life the isolation has been overwhelming these days.

Which ever way it goes your prayers for the best answer to my current hearing loss issues would be appreciated.

Liane,

You are in my prayers and will continue to be in my prayers, especially during the time of your operation on July 9th and recovery period after that.

Thank you both for your gift of prayer during this trying time in my life. Up to a few years ago I had very good health and accept for gall blander surgery years ago and a broken leg and ankle surgery I had been doing very well indeed.

Why these things are happening now I know in part is due to some errors of lifestyle, but the changes I made in the last few years I believe have helped me handle what is happening now. I do believe that these changes and blessings from God have helped me prepare for the things that are happening now and I am thankful to Him for that.

Not saying it is easy and can relate to Job these days, but I find that I feel closer to Him than I have ever been in my life. Trials will do two things to you. They will cause one to drift away from God or draw closer to Him and I followed the later.

Hi Liane.

We are glad you chose the latter rather than the former.

So far, knock on wood, I have never experienced an overnight stay in a hospital, however, I am not getting any younger.

Continuing to pray for you. pray

Liane's last post anywhere was on July 6th.

I heard that Liane died in recovery after her surgery.

I was told that she died on or about July 22nd, however, that date hasn't been confirmed. Based on her posts here, it seems that she may have passed away earlier than that.

She will be missed on here, but she will live again when she is resurrected at the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ.

After doing some research I discovered that Liane Holland passed away in Reno, Nevada on July 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

Liane was a Seventh Day Adventist who studied and helped others understand the teachings of Christ.

She had been severely hard of hearing and had taught a sign language class at the Bishop SDA Church.

She used a hearing dog trained to help her know if someone was calling her, if the phone rang, etc.
