Do You Know What WALMART Is Up To? - 11/12/06 03:13 AM
Perhaps some of you have received an email from American Family Association - regarding Walmart/Sam's Club & the NGLCC (National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce). If you haven't please check out this link: http://www.afa.net/Petitions/issuedetail.asp?id=217
It is really sad...Our family has always shopped at Walmart, but after reading this, we have decided we can no longer support them. Yesterday I was in Walmart, and asked two of the sales clerks if they knew anything about it, they were astounded, and they thought I must be misinformed. I then forwarded the email to our landlord, and she called the local Walmart, and asked the manager if it was true - and they said it was. I then called the same local Walmart, and she told me she didn't know if it was true, that I would have to call the main headquarters....which I did, and they said it was true, they did join the NGLCC. But, they tried to say they were not for pushing Homosexual Marriages, but that they were for "diversity". But, passing homosexual marriage laws are one of the things the NGLCC is all about, besides promoting homosexual businesses. We then went on the NGLCC site http://www.nglcc.org/ht/d/Home/pid/647 and right on the first page, they are welcoming in Walmart.
If you want to read what the NGLCC says about homosexual marriages, go to: http://www.nglcc.org/index.php?display=G...me+sex+marriage
I hope this all stirs you all up as much as it does us...please, do what you can to alert as many people as possible, to what Walmart/Sam's is now doing.

National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Announces Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Membership Monday, August 21, 2006
Partnership includes executive council appointment and program support
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) announced today a partnership with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to advancing diversity among all of its associate, supplier and customer bases. This partnership will include executive representation on the NGLCC’s Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) and sponsorship of the organization’s 2006 events and initiatives.
As part of Wal-Mart’s involvement with NGLCC, Dee Breazeale, vice president of divisional merchandise, SAM’S CLUB Jewelry, will serve on the organization’s Corporate Advisory Council (CAC). The CAC is composed of NGLCC corporate partners whose mission is to discuss issues upon which members of the NGLCC and CAC work together to educate Corporate America and the public on the economic benefits of providing a diverse workplace and creating mutually beneficial relationships with the LGBT and LGBT-friendly business community.
In addition, Wal-Mart will assist the NGLCC in developing, expanding and promoting corporate diversity business development and procurement opportunities by sponsoring some of its programs including two of the organization’s conferences. Last month, NGLCC recognized the company as the newest corporate member of the Chamber at the NGLCC’s International Business and Leadership Conference in Montreal.
“We are honored to have Wal-Mart's support of the NGLCC. Our partnership will not only provide more opportunities for the NGLCC, but the business community as a whole,” said NGLCC Co-Founder and President Justin Nelson. “We are pleased with this addition to our organization and to our council.”
Wal-Mart is the latest company that has heard our message about completing the circle of corporate diversity. No longer is just marketing to the LGBT segment enough. No longer is having a corporate non discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation enough. If a company is as truly committed to being a good corporate citizen in the LGBT space as they are with other diverse communities, then they need to buy back and invest in LGBT community-owned businesses like they do with other diverse segments. Their supplier base, those from whom they purchase goods and services, must look like the customer and employee base they have or are trying to attract.
Wal-Mart joins a highly respected group of companies including IBM, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, American Airlines, Intel Corporation, Motorola, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Lehman Brothers, Travelport, Merrill Lynch, American Express, Cisco Systems, Avis, Orbitz, Intuit, Kodak, Fannie Mae, Millennium Hotels & Resorts, and Kimpton Hotels that are working with the NGLCC to empower LGBT businesses and entrepreneurs. With the support of these companies and many more that will be joining this list for 2007, the NGLCC will continue to create opportunities for LGBT owned businesses through our SDI.
