Healing & The Bible - 05/29/03 04:21 PM

The fact that some people have been miraculously healed gives evidence to what the Bible says about healing.

Daryl, this controversy is about the character of God, not about the validity of the Bible. I think that focussing on the reliability of the Bible, while inspiring, is like following rabbit trails. Someone could prove that the Bible was a fabrication tomorrow and the most that would prove is that Christians are gullible fools. It would have not impact on the character of God. God is! That is true even without the testimony of the Bible. If we accept that fact that humans, being fallible, may have introduced "errors' while recording the Bible there is no need for debates on the issue. In fact, doing so allows for much better dividing of the word because instead of simply accepting what is taught we now have to closely scrutinize every teaching.

Let me illustrate with the well known example that even a stopped clock is correct twice a day. The clock reflects the time of day, but the fact that the clock is stopped has no influence on the passing of time.

I believe the Bible is all about the character of God, particularly as revealed in the New Testament which is why the validity of the Bible is so imnportant.

If you are correct why did it take so many years before we received anything resembling a Bible? The character of God is not dependent on the Bible.

Why was the Bible surpressed during the 1260 prophetic years and people martyred for bringing the Scriptures to the common people?

Why did France outlaw and burn their Bibles in fulfillment of Bible prophecy?

Your argument appears to be that the way to determine whether something was required is by determining whether it is presently useful. Surprisingly, it is this type of reasoning that probably explains why Christ has not returned. Christianity is so busy counting its blessings and cataloging the benefits it brings to the world and to its members that precious little time has been spent discovering whether we have accurately identified the mission of the church much less whether we are fulfilling that mission. Not very convincing, but it surely makes us feel good.
