So then will this article bring awareness of the "elephant in the living room"?? The doctrine of “eternal, conscious torment” can get even sicker depending how far one wants to take it: instead of people like Hitler being eternally tortured ISIS style, many would believe that folks like indigenous tribes living in the jungle who have never met a missionary or seen a Bible will all be tortured in the flames too. In fact, some areas of Christianity, such as extreme Calvinism, actually believe that God created most of humanity for the express purpose of torturing them in flames and that they have no right to complain or object– because God has every right to create things for whatever purpose he has in mind, including ISIS style torture. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/formerlyfun...ctrine-of-hell/Lateran IV calls for the "extermination" of heretics and Jews. Dante's "infermo", followed by J. Edward's "sinners in the hands of an Angry God" -- where Dante claims to be guided by the Roman pagan spirit guide Virgil describing the various layers of eternal hell -- selects a far worse style of torture -- infinite torture -- Maybe world wide disgust over ISIS is also a segway to reviewing somethings inside the Christian camp. How else do you put a "nice face" on killing more than 50 million people during the dark ages?
Far better it would be if the RCC chose to "lead the way" in confessing and repenting of such crimes against humanity and possibly influencing Islam to then "step up" and do the same.
Rather than this "good when we do it -- bad when you do it" game they are playing.

The RCC was nothing more than the early Church gone astray after only 300 years. The RCC is all of us -- Christians. The RCC is a God appointed MIRROR to show us all what lies in our own heart. The early Church had manifested this spirit already before the RCC was formed by persecuting Jews, woman, and non-believers (See the movie Agora: http://www.aina.org/news/20140729115702.htm). The Protestants exibited the same persecution spirit with the Native Indians and the African blacks in the US. And our Churches has the same persecution spirit manifested with one an another. Good thing the Lord did not give us power in our hands as we would have been even worst than the RCC. So we too need to repent of this persecution spirit that still lies in our own heart and recognize this spirit in our own fore-fathers and confess their sins too.

My appologies, the link above is incorrect. The movie "AGORA" is a very profound illustration of what went on in the early 300s AD. It is based on the true story of the stoning of the famous philosophy and mathematics professor Hypatia of Alexandria. She was judged and stoned by the Christians. In this movie we see also the other conflicts that existed between the Jews, the non-believers with the Christians. At first I denied much of the content, however after much reflection I came to see that this is probably only showing the tip of the iceberg.
