Muslims believe Jesus, the son of Mary, was a great prophet. They deny Christ's Divinity, believing ONLY in One singular God Who has no equal, or partner.
"The Messiah (Jesus), son of Mary, was no more than a Messenger before whom many Messengers have passed away; and his mother adhered wholly to truthfulness, and they both ate food (as other mortals do). See how We make Our signs clear to them; and see where they are turning away!” (Quran 5:73-75)
The Muslim position doesn't believe in a Savior dying for our sins. Jesus never died, they claim, but was rescued by God and later ascended to heaven and thus is still alive. This is in sharp contrast to the Christian belief that Christ verily died upon the cross, and was resurrected and ascended to heaven.
The Quran says that the Jews claim:
"We killed Jesus Christ, the son of Mary, Messenger of God."
However, Muslims deny this, as the verse continues:
"But they killed him not, nor crucified him; It was only a likeness shown to them: Most certainly they killed him not. Rather, God lifted him up to Himself." (Quran 4:157-8)
Yet they believe Jesus is a special messenger and that He is alive, being kept by God, until the time when He is to return to earth on a special mission.
But they emphatic deny that Jesus has divinity, and it is asserted that Christianity has fallen into great error thinking Christ is worthy of worship as a divine being.
Interestingly they interpret Jesus sending "another comforter", as sending another "messenger" like himself.
“And when Jesus, son of Mary, said: ‘O Children of Israel! Indeed I am the messenger of God unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who will come after me, whose name is the Praised One.’” (Quran 61:6)
For them Jesus, in John 14:16-17 was promising (prophesying) the coming of the prophet Muhammad.
“And I will give you another Counselor (the Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him), to be with you forever, even the Spirit of Truth.”
The "Jesus" they are expecting to return, will vindicate the Muslim religion, and thoroughly destroy the "errors" they believe Christianity has promoted.
Those supposed great errors are --
the belief in a Saviour Who dies upon the cross for our sins and
that this Savior, Jesus Christ, has equality with God.
Thus when their "Jesus" returns He will be just human-- a great and highly honored human messenger, but still a finite human being, not divine.
His mission is to rectify all the errors taught about him by Christians.
He will fight a false messiah and help bring unity to the Islamic religion.
He will marry, live out his "term", fulfill his mission and die. Thus forever putting to rest the belief that he is God, and everyone will be subjected to the "submission" of the God of law, as taught in the Torah and by Islam.
Scary thought actually.
And the world under Islamic law.
Where is salvation?
By works of course.
Islam teaches that humans are born without sin and can worship God without a mediator. To be sinless a person must only follow God’s commandments and strive to live a righteous life. If one falls into sin, all that is required is sincere repentance followed by seeking God’s forgiveness.
