The following was sent to me by a co-worker. Sad to say it can be so true:

quote:
I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He said, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said good-bye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blue."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

Sometimes I would like to know what it's like to belong to a family. I've never belonged to a family and never did have one of my own...never could relate to anything like The Waltons and The Brady Bunch, and other family sitcoms on TV. No family to tell me what to do or how to live, or make me feel guilty. Don't have to go see family on vacation instead of going where I really want to. But also no shoulder to cry on, no one to care if I make it as an artist, and such. I guess Jesus, the angels, and Holy Spirit are my closest persons,and that is only this past decade after getting a lot of help from them. I know that many people out in the world would think that neurotic, or even a bit weirdo.

I can't imagine what it would be like to not have a family to lean on in trouble. Or even a family with whom to share the good times. I can relate to the poem you posted, Avalee. Too many times I find myself losing my cool with my son.... and he is only three. I know a lot of the time he doesn't realize what he is doing, but it doesn't stop me. I pray that God will give me patience and understanding when dealing with him.
Restin, you say you don't have any family? Well, I think we could all be your family here. At the very least, you have a sister in me. [Big Grin]
What do ya think, ya'll? Can we be her brothers & sisters? [Heart]

Sometimes even those of us who have had mothers and fathers have still not had anyone to lean on and have love and support from them. This is why we must learn to lean totally on Jesus.

That is so very kind, to extend the offer of Maritime fellowship as a family. In a way, I did find "my church' when i got my computer and went out on the web. I look forward to Sabbaths now instead of dreading how I will manage to "keep" the Sabbath for a whole 24 hours. I go out to other web pages and witness in my generic way of inviting people to try God. My faith and knowledge have both been greatly advanced by reading on Maritime. This web site is such a great use of the world wide web, when there is so much mis-use all around.

It is true we only remember the good we do and not the harmful things we do.

We need to check ourselves more often.
