Names Given to Our Pets - 07/22/06 05:11 PM

1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.1:25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

That which was good God created.

1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

1:30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

2:19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

I have often wonder of this did Adam name them a horse, a dog, a cat, a bird, or was it that he gave them names just as God gave our first two parents names of Adam and Eve?

God did not create all the creatures in one day, but over several days. It must have been a wonder to the universe to see God create a tiny bug such as a ladybug and then a huge whale. These creatures were not to be like rocks or trees, but with a brain that could think, feel and give affection.

Animals have been with us since the beginning and it is sad that so much evil has been put upon them by man. Yet they will still lick the hand that feeds them.

Names people give their pets is a wonder to me. Some go from the exotic names to the very simple. My sister has a Himilayan and she named him Harry. Why I do not know. One would think something more exotic for such an exotic cat.

Because I come from a Jewish background I have given my dogs, cats and goats biblical names. Two cats that came from the shelter I let them stay with their names as they have come to know it and respond.

Do names we give to our pets reflect who we are as well? I wonder!

One thing I do know that they do bless us when we care for them the way we should. They bring us comfort, fun and laughter in our lives.

We named one of our cats Siatee, as C.A.T., said as one word. Most people don't get it at first until you say it slowly. Now I'd like a dog named deohgee.

We have friends who obtained a little puff ball of a pup they named fluffy. That dog grew up to be a huge dog that looks like a bear, but they still call it fluffy.

We've named our dogs after people (Toby), towns where they were born (Cooper, after Cooperville), their coat (Freckles), or what they brought to mind (Fritz).

Cats were named Sandy for his color, Taz for Tazmanian Devil and Muffin because she is rolly polly like a little round muffin.

Of course when I was a kid we had collies, and they were all named Lassie. My folks were not real original

During my growing up years we had three dogs and several cats.

Our first dog was an Irish Setter and my mother named her Scarlet. When she passed on we got a medium poodle that was a chocolate/gray that was named Pierre. The last dog we had before I left home was a German Shepherd that my mom named Rip Jack, like after Jack-the-Ripper in London.

I remember several of our cats, but do not recall their names, but for one named Sesame that was a Siamese.

Some today believe that because of the diseases that are getting worse as we draw closer to the end of time that we should no longer have pets, but I still believe that as long as you care for them proper they are safe to have.

We had a little miniture schnauzer whose papers said her name was Miss Supercalifragislistic--that was too hard for us to remember so we just nicknamed her 'Bitsie' and that was her name for the rest of her life. Her papers told us that her "Mom's name was Califragilistic and that her "Dad's" name was Bridgewater Boom Boom. But she was Bitsie to us.... Our poodle we named Troubles, but he was anything but Trouble. One day I called out to him from the back door, "TRoubles. TRoubles" THe utility repair man was working close by and he thought that I was in a problem and asked if he could help.... Our dog that we have now is called Gabby--her papers read Natasha Gabrilelle. But since we think that is silly for such a little 4 pound pom we call her Gabby---because she used to be a bit noisy when she was younger.... My daughter has had a lot of German Shepard dogs over the last 30 years and everyone of them were named SHeba.... We have another dog that lives in our house..She belongs to our grandaughters. Her name is Muffy because she will eat all of the bread and muffins that she can get.
