Events surrounding Probation's close - 10/28/01 11:42 PM

quote:
Before his crucifixion the Saviour explained to his disciples that he was to be put to death, and to rise again from the tomb; and angels were present to impress his words on minds and hearts.

But the disciples were looking for temporal deliverance from the Roman yoke, and they could not tolerate the thought that He in whom all their hopes centered should suffer an ignominious death. The words which they needed to remember were banished from their minds; and when the time of trial came, it found them unprepared. The death of Jesus as fully destroyed their hopes as if he had not forewarned them.

SO in the prophecies the future is opened before US as plainly as it was opened to the disciples by the words of Christ.

The events connected with the close of probation and the work of preparation for the time of trouble, are clearly brought to view.

But multitudes have no more understanding of these important truths than if they had never been revealed. Satan watches to catch away every impression that would make them wise unto salvation, and the time of trouble will find them unready. {4SP 412.1}

As I read this, to me it says that this is written to us SDA Christians. At the beginning of the paragraph it is talking about Jesus explaining to His disciples... and it ends with us.

She states that the events connected with the close of probation are clearly revealed!!

She also states in that same sentence that our work of preparation for the time of trouble is also clearly revealed!

I'd like to invite all you deep studiers to cogitate and share what you may find on this.

(I have split the paragraph for clarity and emphasis only)

Yes, Karen, the feasts listed in Lev. 23 when put together with Daniel and Revelation, will show these end time events clearly--what will happen and when. See Great Controversy p. 399 to shed a flood of light on what you just said. Here Ellen White is talking about Passover and says clearly that Passover shows us the EVENT (what happens) and the TIME as to when that happens. Then, she says IN LIKE MANNER the greatest event in human history (I believe she's talking about the Second Coming) is CLEARLY pointed out. So, if one feast predicted when Jesus would die and how (time and event) then another feast will predict the Second Comint (event) and when (time). See my thread about the Feast of Tabernacles to prove this.

In my thread about TIME, I posted an EGW quote where she said that back at the first coming, Daniel had predicted the year of Jesus' death and that they should have been studying the TIME as to when that should happen. Then, she said that this should be a lesson to us that we not also repeat their failure to study TIME and not know when the Second Coming will be. Yes, Daniel told them the year, and the feast of Passover told them the DAY. This is an opinion of mine--can't prove it for sure, but since the first day of Unleavened Bread was a Sabbath, I think this pointed to the fact that Jesus, right after dying on Passover, would be in the grave resting on the 7th Day Sabbath, thus the year that this First Day of Unleavened Bread lined up on a 7th Day Sabbath, then that would be the year of Jesus' death. And, that is exactly what happened. The Jews called it a high sabbath when a feast sabbath landed on the 7th Day Sabbath, and that's what happened when Jesus died. Thus, in like manner, I believe that the Second Coming will occur on the year that the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles (a sabbath) lands on a 7th Day Sabbath, since the Feast of Tabernacles is the feast that points forward to the Second Coming and the first day of this feast is a sabbath. We can predict how the fall feasts are going to be fulfilled by studying how the spring feasts were partially fulfilled at the first coming (the spring feasts have yet a future fulfillment-I think I covered that in another thread on this forum, but if not let me know and I'll address that).

So, our first day with Jesus will be a 7th Day Sabbath! And, why not? Mankind's first full day with God at creation was a 7th Day Sabbath! Since the Feast of Tabernacles is 8 days long, that puts the last day of the feast exactly one week later. Thus, if the first day with Jesus is a 7th day Sabbath, and we are a week ascending as EGW tells us, then we will enter heaven on the last day of Tabernacles, which is a sabbath, and which will also be a 7th Day Sabbath!

All of this is very exciting for me to study! I challenge all of you to really study this out and post your comments and maybe between all of us we can together learn a lot more!

Jean,

I am troubled by your post. We are not to be time setters. Jesus told us that we would know that it was near, but not the day nor the hour. All time prophecy ended in 1844.

Keep also in mind that Jesus has tried to come more than once, but His people have not been ready.

A decade ago I was being lured into the group that believe they must keep the feast days, and were predicting the second coming by the Jubilee. When I finally studied it out, I found that their scriptural basis was no basis at all.

We need to be very careful before we set forth speculative theories such as the one you have posted. What we are certain of is that Jesus' coming is near, even at the door. Let's be very careful about going further than that.

quote:
The times and seasons God has put in His own power. And why has not God given us this knowledge?-- Because we would not make a right use of it if He did. A condition of things would result from this knowledge among our people that would greatly retard the work of God in preparing a people to stand in the great day that is to come. We are not to be engrossed with speculations in regard to the times and the seasons which God has not revealed. Jesus has told His disciples to "watch," but not for definite time. His followers are to be in the position of those who are listening for the orders of their Captain; they are to watch, wait, pray, and work, as they approach the time for the coming of the Lord; but no one will be able to predict just when that time will come; for "of that day and hour knoweth no man." You will not be able to say that He will come in one, two, or five years, neither are you to put off His coming by stating that it may not be for ten or twenty years. . . . We are not to know the definite time either for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit or for the coming of Christ.--Review and Herald, March 22, 1892. {Ev 221.1}

Re: Events surrounding Probation's close - 10/31/01 04:12 AM

The quote I gave above is talking about the close of probation... not the Second Coming.

I'm interested in that... but even more interested in the preparation for the time of trouble that is "clearly revealed".

I want to know what this preparation is...
and where it is found in the scriptures.

I'm not interested in setting time or knowing the year of His coming. The Father will inform us of that in HIS good time.

I believe the preparation is very important since our probation can end at any moment...
and if we are NOT prepared, then knowing the year or even when it is near is not going to do us one bit of good.

Believe it or not, part of the preparation work is knowing the time we are in as Paul says in Romans 13:11 and 12 quoted below:

quote:

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Romans 13:12
The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

These words apply with peculiar force to us today.

While the world shakes in fear for the uncertainty of tomorrow, especially since September 11th, we may know the times.

We have a map, an excellent map known as the Bible, as well as a precise itinerary, the inspired prophecies.
