the USA mess - 11/15/00 12:39 AM

I was just wondering what you all thought of this Bush gore mess down here in the States? I mean in terms of end time events. Could this be a small rock in the pond that makes a big splash later? We know that the republicans has vast interest in the Church and State issue.

Also I understand you all are having an election is Canada. When is it? What do you think of this Alliance party? Are they for Sunday law?

I am following the US Election situation with great interest as the result of it may very well have endtime connections to it.

In Canada: The election day is November 27, 2000 (which by the way is also my wife's birthday). It will be interesting to see what happens there as there is a SDA running for the Alliance in the Oshawa riding. My plan is to look at each of their party platforms via the internet before choosing who to vote for. Stockwell Day becoming the next Prime Minister could very well have endtime connections regarding the Sunday laws, etc. That is why I am curious as to why a SDA is running under that party's name.

Re: the USA mess - 11/16/00 05:31 AM

It's interesting that yesterday Stockwell Day used the latest Peter Whitmore incident as his springboard for a "get tough on crime" announcement.

It created a brouhaha in that other candidates are saying that this "toughness" is diverting people's attention away from his cruel attitude towards other aspects (ie. people) of society. In other words, he seems to be for cutting social programs (really, not a bad idea in some cases) but has a "get tough" policy for offenders.

What started all of this is a child molester called Peter Whitmore was let out of custody recently in Toronto. He was driven from the home of a minister who was trying to help him and put under the "watchful eye" of a group from the Mennonite Central Committee.

Just two days ago he was found in a Toronto motel room with a 13-year-old. Day pounced on the incident, saying that in his administration, the "perv" (what the Toronto Sun headline calls Whitmore) would never have been let out of jail in the first place.

My mind-set right now is favouring Day's position. Several years ago a teenager killed 3 members of the Chatham church (where I pastor). He's now free and applying for jobs in our community. Of course he doesn't put on his resume that he's had a problem with mass murder when he was younger.

Still, as election day approaches, I haven't fully made up my mind on who to vote for. The only "known" commodity other than our current PM is Joe Clark. I just wish there was more possibility of making a vote for him count.

By the way--Citizens of the US, if those overseas ballots can decide Florida's final count, then Your President is in the mail!

The consensus that seems to be growing is that the Democrats including Al Gore, is going to keep challenging the vote count in Florida until it comes out in his favor. The Dems, unfortunately, have a history of vote fraud. People voting more than once (it's happened this year) bribing people to vote (they gave a package of cigarettes to homeless people who went and voted) and so on and so on. I just keep praying that God will put in office the man who is supposed to be there.

I won't even watch the evening news. All they talk about is Florida vote counting. If it wasn't for the newspaper, I wouldn't even know about the disastrous fire in Austria that took over a hundred lives, including some Americans.

I am not totally informed about the US election fuss; but everything that happens in any political arena at this stage of the game is definitely going to have end time significance. Things are being put in place gradually for the prophecies to be fulfilled; and we see signs of this in both Canada and the US.

I don't think it will matter so much who is in power and what they believe. There are other forces at work that will also affect what people in power will do.

Natural disasters and other calamities and "miracles" will also play an important part in influencing what our leaders do.

The Bible tells us to pray for them, and to bless them; and that is what we should be teaching one another. Especially our children. They will have some great obstacles to face, and they need to know what Jesus would do.

The following reference backs up what David just posted; one in the KJV anf the other in the ASV:

Romans 13:1 "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation."

Romans 13:1 "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
2 Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,
4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.
6 For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
7 Pay all of them their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.

This tells me that God is ultimately in control. It also tells me that we are to obey them only as long as what they tells us to do doesn't go contrary to the Law of God for we are to obey God rather than men, or, in this case, the governing powers.

How do you like this for news? A critic of Stockwell Day says that he has witnessed Mr. Day giving a "testimony" that he believes that life on earth is 6,000 years old and that Dinosaurs lived side-by-side with humans.

Day's response was that he should no more have to explain his beliefs to scientists as the Roman Catholic candidates have to explain why they believe the Immaculate Conception actually took place.

Stockwell Day is the only Non-Roman Catholic in Canada who is running for PM (except maybe the Communist, Rhino, Natural Law Party, etc.).

Pastor Andrew,

What do you know about the SDA who is running for a seat for the Canadian Alliance Party in Oshawa, Ontario?

Barry Bussey is a lawyer and our conference's former Executive Secretary.

I glowingly referred to him about a few months ago because of his "get tough" position on clergy and church volunteer mis-doings.

Apparently he's been interested in politics since he was a child.

Item of note: He roomed across the hall from me at Kingsway in the early 80's.
