Lesson Study #1 is titled, "The Rhythms of Life."

Re: 2nd Quarter 2019 - Family Seasons - 04/05/19 01:48 AM

From Sunday's Study:

Ellen G. White wrote that “order is Heaven’s first law” (Signs of the Times, June 8, 1908); apparently it is on earth, as well. Though sin has disrupted the natural world, to some degree, order, rhythm, and regularity still exist.

This week's study is all about choices:

http://www.ssnet.org/lessons/19b/less02.html

Adam and Eve made their choice which affects us to this very day by the choices we also make and also need to make.

This week's study is all about being prepared:

Many are not prepared.

I really tried to keep an open mind. But after three lessons....

Quote:
Life is full of changes. Things change all the time. The only thing that does not change is the reality of change itself. Change, in fact, is a part of our very existence.
I expect such continuing profoundness the rest of the quarter.

Quote:
Psalm 71 is the psalm of an older person

I could not find that from reading Psalms 71. Other than a reference to when he was younger. Lot's of added creativeness here in the following section on Thursday.

Seasons of death? Yes death is part of life, but the way they talk about it, makes it sound like, oh well, it's just like flowers bloom, mom dies. No big deal.

Seems like these authors use a bunch of touchy-feely fluff, to me.

Re: 2nd Quarter 2019 - Family Seasons - 05/01/19 12:10 AM

Quote:
Proverbs is, in fact, cast as a family document in which keys to a godly life are handed down from parent to child. Just as parents might write a letter of advice to a son or daughter going to college, setting up their separate dwelling, or taking a job away from home, so Proverbs is addressed from father to son: “My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother” (Prov. 1:8, NKJV). Deuteronomy directed parents to share their convictions with the next generation. This is what Proverbs does. In the father’s summons, we hear the voice of the heavenly Father calling us to learn.
More of the same. Why do they count it as a "family document" rather than a "wisdom of life instruction document" whether son, daughter, king, or fellow man?

Re: 2nd Quarter 2019 - Family Seasons - 05/01/19 11:27 PM

Spinning the "family document".
Quote:
and the early-rising family member who “blesses” sleepers “with a loud voice” (Prov. 27:14, NKJV).

What it actually says:

Proverbs 27:14 He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, It will be counted a curse to him.

The idea is the friend who comes over early in the morning and says things like Rise and Shine! Not "the early-rising family member". Because it is NOT a "family document".

I agree that it is referring to a friend or to a neighbour:

Proverbs 27:14 ESV says, "Whoever blesses his neighbour with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, will be counted as cursing."

But it IS a "family document", being a message directed from parents to child. One is at liberty however to APPLY it in other scenarios, but it is what it is. However, you are correct in catching 'the strange interpretation' given to Prov. 27:14 which was a warning not to put any trust in man -- to be wary of sudden gifts from acquaintances.

"It will be counted a curse to him" ... to whom? To the one -- to the 'friend' -- who is blessed so unusually and so unusually early in the day. Something is afoot and something will be required. Watch out!

Who are the "sons" and "children"?
Proverbs 1:
To know wisdom and instruction, To perceive the words of understanding,
To receive the instruction of wisdom, Justice, judgment, and equity;
To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion-
A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,

Proverbs 8:32 "Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways.

Who is speaking here?

Wednesday:
Quote:
In the Song of Solomon, we find some of Scripture’s most compelling evidence for God’s plan that people remain sexually chaste until marriage. One of the most powerful is a reference to the Shulamite’s childhood, when her brothers wondered whether she would be a “wall” or a “door” (Song of Sol. 8:8, 9). In other words, will she remain chaste until marriage (a wall), or be promiscuous (a door).

Interesting spin.
Where do they come up with the speculation that it is her brothers talking? (Some NKJ versions reference "brothers", but why?)
Where do they come up with the speculation that it is her in her previous childhood and not some other current girl? (Like the Gentiles?)
