This is spectacular! It’s a video of pictures taken by the Hubble.

Enjoy,

Tom

It'll really be a shame if they actually go through with decommissioning that amazing piece of equipment.

Tom I really hate to sound IGNORANT about this but I am [Big Grin] ....are these true pictures we are watching or ones that have been made? Alright get off the floor from falling off your chair laughing at my question. Smile!

They are true pictures of what is out there. Some of the pictures are a composite of several camera images taken through the Hubble telescope. Some of them may have some "touch-up" enhancements to clarify the image, but they are true photographs. The unsurpassed quality of what can be done with the Hubble telescope is becausethere is no distortion of the images or absorbing and defraction of the color by earths atmosphere.

I clicked on the link but only came up with a black screen on my IE browser. [Confused]

It's an embedded Macromedia Flash presentation Daryl, and will take a while to download & get started, esp. if you're on dial-up.

Or maybe you need to update your Flash player -- go to

this site

It's a fairly small download.

Tom

You know if there are some good place where one can get high resolution hubble pictures? Perhaps more than just a few.

A good place is the NASA website at http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/lib/aptree.html .

I sure like that site you gave us Tom. I printed out some pics for the town I work in and took them to work last night. I of course was able to see Venus and Jupiter. I think I might have seen Saturn. I also printed out your first post and taht helped alot.

I updated the Flash Player, however, it still doesn't work for me. [Frown]

Re: Hubble - 04/04/04 06:23 AM

Well that's a head-scratcher. Could be due to a number of things. Maybe you could try out another browser, like Mozilla.

Or, you could try this: the actual Shockwave Flash file embedded in the web page is at

http://wires.news.com.au/special/mm/030811-hubble2.swf

You could right-click on the link above, go "Save Target As", and download it to some location on your hard drive. Then open that local file with your browser; File > Open > Browse button > change "Files of Type" to "All files", browse to where you saved the file, select it, click Open, click OK.

Daryl I know with my slow connection it takes quite awhile for it to open. I get a blank square for a bit then it has this writing that tells it is loading. Do you get that at all?

Re: Hubble - 04/05/04 10:43 PM

How long is a bit, and what browser are you using?

Re: Hubble - 04/10/04 02:55 AM

Well it seemed like it took over 5 minutes for it to load all the way...but I do not stay at one page and wait..I opened something else and was doing some other work while it was loading..could have been maybe longer. I am using IE 6.0.2????. I noticed in another topic on birds you mentioned you had problems there too. Maybe something is going on at your end of the PC connection? Hope you get to see those Hubble pics soon..they are great.

Daryl, over here in the United States we have publick libarys that let people use their computers free. I was having a problem and I could have sworn it was on the other end. So I logged on to that forum from our libry and everthin worked. That meant it was in my computer. I fergot what I did but everthin got fixed. Maybe some of your settings are fouled up. If you never turn your computer off - try it -- lots of problemos get fixed that way. -
