Surgery - 09/13/04 07:48 PM

I have a prayer request for everyone. I will be having gastric bypass surgery on OCtober 5th. It is something I have been thinking about for 3 years and I have been praying about it as well. I believe it is my best option now... I have gotten up to 458 pounds. I am only 5 feet 2.5 inches tall. Please keep me and my family in prayer.

May God bless and keep you through your surgery Stephanie. May it's results in time be very good for you. I know a lady that had that done some time back. In 6 months or so she was down to 150 pounds and looked like a new person.
God bless,

Stephanie, I'll be praying for you too. By way of encouragement, have a look at this article about a girl I went to school with growing up, who had the same surgery 3 years ago:

http://www.news.ecu.edu/poe/804/sullivan.html

Let's hope your results are as good as hers! I honestly didn't recognize her at first when I saw the picture.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. My surgery will be at 11:30 am eastern time. My husband was told that it will take 2-3 hours. I will try to have my dad get on here & let you all know how the surgery went, after I have had it.

Those of you who have my dad's email address, if you want, email him after I have had the surgery. He is driving down with my husband and me, and will probably not be back home until after 6pm (eastern time) on October 5th. I hope he will post here, but he has not been here in quite some time. It may be easier to get a response by email. If anyone emails him, feel free to post his reply here.

Just a few days away. I am a little nervous, but I know I am in God's hands. I am more relaxed and at peace with the whole thing. I know that whatever happens will happen. God is in control.
Love,
Steph

Stephanie, I will be praying for you especially on October 5th. The Lord will be with you!

After the surgery you will have some time to recover and won't feel all that great. I hope this is a total success for you and that in the end you will know it was worth it.

Re: Surgery - 10/01/04 06:23 AM

You are in my prayers Stephanie. Here is a verse for you, and in fact for all of us.

quote:

Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

God Bless,
Will

For the glory of Your kingdom and a new Steph! In Jesus' wonderful Name, Amen

Think Thin, Stephen, then thank the Great Physician and think even thinner.

I've been praying for Stephanie right at this hour knowing she is in surgery right now. I am so thankful for James 1:5--we can pray for the surgeons to have wisdom from on high.

God will hear these prayers.

How did Stephanie make out?
Posted By: Ikan

Re: Surgery - 10/07/04 04:36 PM

I don't expect to hear from her until Monday, Mike, as this sort of operation is of the radical nature, not outpatient. They have to make sure all of the digestive process work.

Re: Surgery - 10/08/04 06:24 AM

I emailed her father, Gerry Buck, who sent me the following reply:

quote:

Hi, Daryl,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while.

They said the surgery would take about 2 hours if all went well, 3 - 4 if they had problems.

All the prayers offered up for her worked, the whole thing (surgery) only took 1 hour.

The doctor also said (before surgery) he might have to take the gall bladder, ... WRONG!!!!!, he got in and discovered it was in great shape.

If everything else goes as well as this, she will be able to go home this Friday, 10/10, so, now you know what I know.

Thanks for asking me, she asked me to send a report, and I forgot, just too busy and really tired.

God bless, and thank you again,

Gerry

[Thank You] Thank you, Lord, for answering our prayers. [Thank You] [Smile]

Re: Surgery - 10/23/04 02:10 AM

Thanx for the update. On TV there's a weekly reality show, which unfortunately has a stupid name ( a play on words) - The biggest Loser - that focuses on heavy people losing weight. I thought it was encouraging to watch the contestants working so hard to achieve their personal goals. May God continue to bless as you strive to meet your goals. Happy Sabbath.

Re: Surgery - 02/21/05 07:43 AM

Ok, Dave had to see our doctor cuz his ear was bothering him. He's ok, but needs to take meds for it. While we were at the office, I decided to check my weight. As of Friday (Feb. 18th) I am 7 pounds shy of having lost 100 pounds! Yeah, I am losing slower than the surgeon would like, but my opinion is this: I wasn't losing before the surgery. In fact, I kept gaining. I am losing the weight now. I now weigh about 50 pounds more than I weighed before I got pregnant for Davey..... nearly 5 years ago! I think I am doing very well. Between my six week check up and my 3 month check up, I was losing at an average of 4 pounds a week. Now I have dropped to 3 pounds a week. While it isn't very fast, I haven't plateaued (is that a real word?) Anyway, just letting you know my progress.

Re: Surgery - 02/22/05 03:44 AM

Amen Stephanie! [Smile] I've heard it said that the slower you lose the weight, the likelier you are to keep it off! [Smile] I hope that's good news [Smile]

I'm glad things are going well for you. You must feel like a new woman! (and yes, plateaued is a word!)

Re: Surgery - 03/22/05 12:29 AM

Ok, I have tried on a pair of pants since I got them. I started out in a size 30-32. These other pants are size 26-28. About 2 weeks ago, they were still a little tight, but I figured, oh well, I will fit in them eventually. Well, I tried them on last nite & they FIT!!! I mean really fit. They were even a little bit loose, well not when I sat down, cuz then they tightened up a little. But they were loose otherwise. You know what that means? I no longer HAVE to order clothes from a catalog! I CAN go to Wal-Mart and try clothes on and they will FIT!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Surgery - 03/22/05 01:48 AM

Congratulations on this new phase of life, Stephanie! My mom weighed about 180-185 not too long ago, but has lost 30-35 lbs. in the past couple of years. She feels and looks much better, so I'd reckon the changes for the better in your case are that much more noticeable. [Smile]

Re: Surgery - 04/01/05 11:59 PM

Hey all, it's official! I have finally passed the 100 pound mark! I started at 467 and am now down to 360. That's 107 pounds! My doctor is impressed. He says it is a good rate and he is very confident that I will continue and at LEAST make it tyo 200 pounds. That means I have about 160 to go to reach that goal. I did tell him that I would feel good even at 250, but he is still confident that I will lose the additional 160, so I won't argue with him! [Wink] Anyway, I can see it and feel it. I have some pictures posted on a website, documenting my progress, so if anyone wants to see, feel free to email me and I will give the address to you. Just to let everyone know, I am losing at a rate of approximately 2.3 pounds per week. So, if I can increase it to 3 pounds per week, I know I will do better! And that isn't inconceivable, as we are moving someplace that has sidewalks and benches all over outside, as well as a swimming pool. So, I will be able to get in lots of exercise. HEHE

Well, I think I've rambled enough, so I'll post now. Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers. Also, if you all could, please remember us in prayer as we prepare to move. Please pray that all the financial stuff will be taken care of. Right now, it looks like we may be around $200-300 short, but you know that all things are possible with God! AMEN!

Re: Surgery - 05/29/05 10:46 PM

Stephanie is still losing the weight, she and her little family moved to Addison Illinois the first of this month.
All seems to be going well, Davey has made several friends and Steph is able to get outside every day, so she should be starting to take it off easier now.
God bless,
Gerry

You are so right about that Dad! Since my visit at 6 months, I have lost about 20 more pounds! That was TWO MONTHS AGO!! I can now be weighed on our scale. I am so excited!

Re: Surgery - 09/07/05 12:01 AM

Just wanted to give y'all an update on my progress..... I weigh myself on a weekly basis now, since I CAN! LOL Seriously, though, I weighed myself yesterday morning. I am now at 301 pounds! Well, my top weight was 467 pounds. I am about a month shy of hitting the one year mark, so I expect that I will be under 300 pounds by the time I get to that point. I can walk around the store with relatively few problems. Afterward, though, I have knee troubles. I have a doctor appointment set for next week, so I will ask her what she thinks. Things are starting to look up for us. I found out that Dave may have to finish his schoolong in PA or NC or FL...... that will be the manufacturer specific training. The ones he really would like to go for are only located in those states. That training will be 3-6 months long, then we will have to move AGAIN to wherever he ends up working. I am KIND OF hoping he gets into a program here in Glendale Heights, as well as working for a company in this area. If he does, then we won't be moving again until it is a PERMANENT (or as close to permanent in this life) move. Keep us all in prayers!

Re: Surgery - 10/13/05 02:25 AM

It doesn't seem like it has been a little over a month since I updated y'all on this. Well, I hit the one year mark. And, I am happy to say, I have reached 300 pounds. Not only that, I have surpassed it! I weighed myself this morning and I am at........ two hundred ninety-six and one half pounds!!!!!!!!!! 296.5!!!! I can't BELIEVE it!!! Now, just a week ago, I was at 300, worried that I had hit a plateau and was stuck there for awhile! Now, I am excited again! If I keep on this trend, most likely 2 pounds per week, I will be around 240 in six months! I still can't believe that I saw that "2" as the first number in my weight. It has been six year since I saw that number in first place. I'm not done yet! Still have a long way to go, but I am getting there!!!!

Re: Surgery - 01/16/06 07:45 AM

Well, not really.....still right around that 295 mark....HOVERING! [Animated Laughter] Seriously, tho, I fluctuate between 295-300 depending on the week..... you know us women and our cycles! LOL I DID get to 202, but then Christmas came...and with it, baking...well, you know "the rest of the story" But I am doing well. My weight is lower that it was when Dave (husband) and I met. So, now we are contemplating having a second child.... We will see what God has in store for us! [Big Grin]
