quote:
Cities to Be Visited by God's Judgments

The time is near when the large cities will be visited by the judgments of God. In a little while, these cities will be terribly shaken. No matter how large or how strong their buildings, no matter how many safeguards against fire may have been provided, let God touch these buildings, and in a few minutes or a few hours they are in ruins. {CL 7.2}

The ungodly cities of our world are to be swept away by the besom of destruction. In the calamities that are now befalling immense buildings and large portions of cities, God is showing us what will come upon the whole earth.--Testimonies, vol. 7, pp. 82, 83. (1902) {CL 7.3}

Results of Unheeded Warnings

I am bidden to declare the message that cities full of transgression, and sinful in the extreme, will be destroyed by earthquakes, by fire, by flood. All the world will be warned that there is a God who will display His authority as God. His unseen agencies will cause destruction, devastation, and death. All the accumulated riches will be as nothingness. . . . {CL 7.4}

Calamities will come--calamities most awful, most unexpected; and these destructions will follow one after another. If there will be a heeding of the warnings that God has given, and if churches will repent, returning to their allegiance, then other cities may be spared for a time. But if men who have been deceived continue in the same way in which they have been walking, disregarding the law of God,
8
and presenting falsehoods before the people, God allows them to suffer calamity, that their senses may be awakened. {CL 7.5}

The Lord will not suddenly cast off all transgressors, or destroy entire nations; but He will punish cities and places where men have given themselves up to the possession of Satanic agencies. Strictly will the cities of the nations be dealt with, and yet they will not be visited in the extreme of God's indignation, because some souls will yet break away from the delusions of the enemy, and will repent and be converted, while the mass will be treasuring up wrath against the day of wrath.--Evangelism, p. 27. (1906) {CL 8.1}

Imminence of God's Judgments

There are reasons why we should not build in the cities. On these cities, God's judgments are soon to fall.--Letter 158, 1902. {CL 8.2}

The time is near when large cities will be swept away, and all should be warned of these coming judgments.--Evangelism, p. 29. (1910) {CL 8.3}

O that God's people had a sense of the impending destruction of thousands of cities, now almost given to idolatry.--Review and Herald, Sept. 10, 1903. {CL 8.4}

We do not have much time left in this old sinful world. Amen Come Lord Jesus soon.

Re: Hurricane hits just before homosexual event - 09/05/05 09:49 PM

I'm watching all this unfold on FOX Satellite News live, in Florida. And I went thru the four 'canes last year, BTW. Tho I feel so very much for those people and the unimaginable shock and fear, I also begin to see the dark side of New Orleans, as it is surfacing also. The self serving, crime, looting, corruption, weakness of the leadership, etc. on down the line. As they said, the tragedy brought out the best and the worst of the people involved. We've always known of the moral laxness especially there, the Mardigraw, sexcapades, casinos, etc in the Big Easy. In a way, most religious folk have been thinking New Orleans is past due for getting what's coming to her from the fire&brimstone department. Ditto for a flood...the wickedest town in the USA sitting on a huge beach, and 13 feet below sea level. And we all know from earliest school days that dykes and levees are synomimous with the word, Leak. What pride of man to think they can hold off the whole ocean with a few strips of dirt, or a two-foot wide sea wall! That's what it looks like from 20,000 ft. in a jet plane around there. I feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of it all and have to turn off the TV to recover for a few hours, feeling guilty that the victims can't do the same with the pictures running in their minds. This is God's "Strange act". Or, as we've been discussing, God has allowed this to happen. The end time does seem to be revving up now, with these disasters following one after the other, each one "the worst that has ever happened", as they say on the world news nowadays.

We've been in the end times for awhile now, but the lure of fragile peace and temporary prosperity has the church asleep and the world drunk.

This time its basically one or two cities, what happens when it is ten, or multiple states, or entire countries left in burning ashes? The reality is that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

The good news is that the same Jesus that protected those boys in the firey furnace is the same Jesus that will see us through the storms ahead. We have message to give to the world, lets work now and spread that message while there is still time.

Hello everyone,

"Awake thou that sleepest..." Ephesians 5:14

I am sure all of us have watched the news and are familiar with the current events in New Orleans. It is a very tragic and sad situation. As I watched today the videos on CNN, the scenes were horrifying:
shootings, rape, murder, stealing, braking in, no respect of property, snipers shooting at rescue workers. This is the current city of New Orleans, a city under water. As all of us can see, it doesn't take 100 years until chaos erupts. It takes 1 day, and everything is out of control. Many of us think we have the time, but Katerina reminded us that when we feel secure and safe, sudden destruction comes, fast. We as Adventist have to keep these suffering people in our prayers and have to do all we can to help. Also as well we need to wake up and spread the Gospel like wildfire, as never before, because time is near when we will have no such opportunity.
Many of you heard of the story of the Laotian lady named Soo. I know many disbelieve her testimony, but also know that many do believe it. As it turns out the angel was right. The angel said something bigger will happen in 2005 the what happened on 911. The hurricane Katerina and her destruction was compared to 911 over CNN, also the death toll might even exceed it. The major said today it could be in the thousands. 911 was two towers, this is a whole city. The damage is in the billions. It affected the whole economy, gas prices in particular. As I was reading the papers, it will also affect the import and export of corn, soy and grain since New Orleans was one of the main cities of exporting these foods. Horrific tragedy. Could this be it what Soo was talking about? It could be, I personally believe it is just the start. The hurricane season just started, and it will last till November 30, according to CNN. Another hurricane is just forming right now as we speak, named Maria. Last year Florida was hit by 4 hurricanes in September, and we just entered into September. I was reading "Last Day Events" by Ellen White, and she saw Chicago, Los Angeles and other evil cities being destroyed by destructive winds, fires and earthquakes. New Orleans could be the other evil cities, but what about Chicago, or Los Angeles. As far as I know this is still future events.
My brothers and sisters, we need to speak out as never before. We need to work as never before. TIME IS RUNNING OUT for this planet. I wonder how many people died in New Orleans knowing not the truth, or even that God loves them...
Pray as you never prayed before, so the work can be finished...

God bless.

Re: Hurricane hits just before homosexual event - 09/05/05 10:22 PM

We need to be careful that some of us don't sit back and think we won't suffer any of what the people in NO have suffered recently.

I am reminded of the story of the 12 spies when Israel was ready to take the Promised Land. Ten of those spies brought back a faithless report and only 2 brought back a report full of faith. But in the punishment, they ALL went into 40 years of waiting to enter the Promised Land. Even though those two who were faithful did enter...the only two that entered...yet they had to wait with the rest.

The above posts are excellent ones to admonish us to get the word out to people--the Truth before it is too late. And yes, we need to pray for these people and help as much as we can.

I read where 125,000 gays were to be in NO this last Labor Day week-end. THAT is a lot of people. God is trying to wake people up--because as what was already said, MUCH worse is to happen yet and it could be where we live.

Debbie that is true about the homosexuals being in NO this weekend. That is what the article is about too. I just turned the news on for a few minutes while changing clothes from work and heard them say that some of them did show up..with that I turned off the TV. Do not care to see that garbage.

Amen Debbie we as SDA Christians cannot think that we will not be affected by these things. We need to keep our trust and faith in God.

I guess in my mind I'm trying to reconcile how God would send a hurricane to wipe out a city because of a weekend of gay activity. I know there are many who think that this is exactly the reason but if I were a resident of NO I would have a hard time wrapping my mind around that concept. Or could it be that in this sinful world nature is simply running it's course and happened to hit NO?

Re: Hurricane hits just before homosexual event - 09/06/05 05:06 AM

EGW does warn of end time events, and these warnings are also found in Scripture! We need to take heed and leave the cities BUT we must also minister to those in the cities! (Catch 22 ? )

Good things will happen to the good person and to the evil person. So these end time tradgedies are against the world in general! This world is a crippled and disfunctional place to be!

Thank you Father for the "Peace that passes all understanding!"
We serve a God who loves us, and will call by the means of the Holy Spirit, What say ye?

Yes we live in a sinful world, and many innocent will suffer at the hands of the evil one.

But make no mistake, God's eyes are not closed and the cup of iniquity will reach its limit. Judgement will be poured out as it has been poured out in the past. He takes no pleasure in punishing man and neither should we. But the facts are the facts. Man is in open rebellion against God. And rebellious man must know that God loves them and sent His Son to die for them, and is waiting to accept them. But judgement is coming.

Did God wipe out New Orl? Only He can answer that and I dont think anyone here was saying that. But wickedness there was at its height and mingled with pride. Just like so many other cities, much like my city. Do I expect judgement to fall on my city? Yes I do. The site of sin is on almost every corner, and the word from the pauper up to the pulpit is that we are too blessed for it to happen to us.

We'd better find a way to tell them the truth now, because once probation closes they will never forgive you and I for not telling them before.

Ren, you are absolutely right. God loves the sinner. NO was not wiped out. They will rebuild. God is trying to get the attention of some who need it. He is trying to tell them to get ready because whether we live or die on this earth, we need to be ready to meet the jugdment day.

God will do whatever it takes to get a persons attention, even sending a hurricane.

Homosexuals celebrate in ravaged New Orleans:
2 dozen 'gays' march up Bourbon Street, reslate Southern Decadence for tomorrow.
Despite the devastation and ongoing suffering by thousands from Hurricane Katrina, homosexuals paraded on Bourbon Street in New Orleans over the weekend, and have rescheduled their "Southern Decadence" event for tomorrow.

"It's New Orleans, man. We're going to celebrate,"....

When I think of what has happened in New Orleans, it makes me think of what God warned of for our own church. If God is angry with cities like New Orleans, do we realize that we as Seventh Day Adventists have had more light than anybody has ever had?

"For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." Luke 12:48

Jesus said that Capernaum that had great light, would be brought down to hell and that it would be more tolerable for Sodom than for them, because of that. Think of what that means for us, verses New Orleans. I view this as a time when we should be thinking of it as God speaking to EVERYBODY, including US... not only to go out and tell people the Three Angel's messages while there is time, but also to get our own lives together and ready for the Judgment.

Last Day Events, page 48, paragraph 2
Chapter Title: God's Last Day Church
Of those who boast of their light and yet fail to walk in it Christ says, "But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment than for you. And thou, Capernaum [Seventh-day Adventists, who have had great light], which art exalted unto heaven [in point of privilege], shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works which have been done in thee had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day."--RH Aug. 1, 1893.[4.
