Rod Parsley, Dr. Myles Munroe and The Ten Commandments - 08/24/05 03:05 PM

I told you all that a large conference was held in the Bahamas with the above speakers and others. Here is my letter that was published in todays editorial of our local newspaper.

Rod Parsley, Dr. Myles Munroe and The Ten Commandments

Last week Pastor Rod Parsley presented his message “Not Silent Anymore” during the International Kingdom Summit at Bahamas Faith Ministries. Pastor Parsley said he would no longer be silent while ungodly issues wreak havoc in America and around the world. Citing the removal of the Ten Commandments from government buildings and schools in America, he urged Christians to also take a stand, unite and let their voices be heard to the government. Is this what Christians are called to do? Where do Pastor Parsley and Dr. Munroe really stand on these issues? Let us examine the evidence to see.

On September 12 2005, the United States Supreme Court ordered judge Roy Moore to remove a statue of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse. Since then, Pastor Parsley has petitioned Christians all across America to unite and by vote, letter, protest or phone call, compel the government to pass Bill H.R 2045, named the Bill to Protect the Ten Commandments. Lets examine this “movement” by Pastor Parsley along three particular lines, principle, historical and practical.

The principle upon which we stand is that civil government is civil, and has nothing to do in the matter of legislation, with religious observances in any way. The basis of this is found in the words of Jesus in Matt 22:21. When, the Pharisees asked whether it was lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not, he replied: “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.” In this the Savior certainly separated that which pertains to Caesar from that which pertains to God. We are not to render to Caesar that which pertains to God; we are not to render to God by Caesar that which is God’s.

Pastor Parsley and Dr. Munroe, it is for the good of society that men shall be Christians; but it is not in the providence of the State to make men Christians. The duty to uphold and keep the Ten Commandments through faith in Christ rests solely between man and God; and if any man does not render to God, he is responsible only to God, and not to any man, nor to any assembly or organization of men, for his failure or refusal to render it to God.

Pastor Parsley and Dr. Munroe, could it be that the 10 Commandments that yourselves and Evangelical America are clamoring to defend are in fact the 9 Commandments that you are willing to obey? The forth commandment clearly states, “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it Holy.” Have you led your flock by example and urged them to keep it Holy? The nation will be eagerly watching to see if you will “keep” His seventh day Sabbath Holy. The Supreme Court Judge that you have praised Pastor Parsley has done what God has commanded that no man should ever do, he has changed the Scripture by editing the forth commandment to suit his liking, and yet there is no loud cry from your pulpits decrying this. What kind of moral authority does a leader possess when he chooses to disregard the very Law he is attempting to defend (Is 56:10)? “You have a fine way of setting aside the commandment of God in order to observe your own tradition” (Mark 7:8).

The call of God is not for the Ten Commandments to be in a government building of courthouse, it is for the Ten Commandments to be written in our hearts, loved and obeyed (Heb 10:15-16).

Dr. Munroe, your agreement with Pastor Parsley that Christians should unite to influence government and law not only lacks Biblical basis, but the thought of one religion holding the reigns of power (no matter how moral), should be shunned by every believer in Christ. Have you told you members of the Dark Ages when the Roman Catholic Church controlled both church and state and persecuted all those who did not agree with their decrees? Have you told your member of the millions all over the world that were murdered in the name of Christ by an Antichrist system that pressed its views on the strong and weak? Have you told them that when the United Stated invaded Afghanistan a few years ago, they met an Islamic church that controlled the state and people were mercilessly persecuted? Have you told them Dr. Munroe that even today in Russia, the Orthodox churches, many who still claim to be Christian still persecute the people with the backing of the state? Have you told them that it was Pope Pius XII who fully supported Hitler in his bloody war and butchering of millions of people? Have you told them that as Christians our duty is to preach Christ, obey His Commandments, and help our neighbor, all in love and not to seek political power or influence? Have you guarded you sheep Dr. Munroe as you have been commanded to do (1 Peter 5:2-3)?

Pastor Parsley, 3 minutes and 23 seconds into your sermon you asked this question: "…because the question in America today, is not whether or not we can have the Ten Commandments. It is a simple question and it is this. Can the state acknowledge God?" What a startling revelation sir, and it reminds me of this quote from Dr. James Dobson: “The media have not understood the issue at all, and that’s why I came here, to say to you, it’s not about the 10 Commandments. It’s about everything else.” Is that so dear reader? That it is not about God’s Word and Holy Law, but instead about Christian leaders seeking political power and influence? Could this be why both The Bahamas and America have lost their way? Because professed Christians have only a form of godliness?

The books of Daniel and Revelation tell us that just before Christ return’s a religious power will force the whole world to worship it, and it will enforce its laws through the might of the government. Search your hearts dear readers, does it cry out for the unsaved in your midst? Does the though of your friends being lost move you to share Christ with them? The hour is late, Christ is soon to return and only those who overcome the lusts of this world will be saved (Rev 3:5).

Maranatha!

Nope, there has been no response. Not sure if I was expecting one. I just pray that the average reader is moved by the Holy Spirit to realize the truth, and how late in the hour it is.
