Country Living

Country Living - 06/06/13 05:38 AM

I am a Canadian and have been living in Georgia USA since 1999. We are thinking about moving back to Canada but I have some questions.

Is there anyone in this group who lives in Canada that lives in the country and, where would you recommend living if you were moving to Canada?

At this time we are looking at 4 places, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In your opinion, what place is best suited for country living and why? I've lived in AB and ON and have family in NS. It seems to me that NB has some inexpensive land but making a living might be difficult.

I'd really like to live in AB but it is expensive to live there although there are many jobs and good paying ones.

Please feel free to share what you can.

I missed the fact that you are a Canadian living outside of Canada.

You have been added to our Maritime forum list as a Canadian.

Will you be looking for work in Canada, or will you be retired from the work force?

Hi Daryl,

I will be working for some time but am thinking about full-time ministry. I am currently a Missional Pastor with the Georgia Cumberland Conference of SDAs (Volunteering since Oct 2010) and would like to work on a church plant and have a medical ministry when we move. (We are currently having Bible studies at our home on Friday evenings with the intent of starting a group or church before we move.)

I'm not sure what this will look like or end up like I just know I want to stop giving most of my time and energy to secular pursuits. I am now working for myself and 2 other companies, but making very little income, the economy here is not good. So (I think) why not spend that time working for the Lord and make little income or maybe more.

We are praying and are also being realistic in that we are not going to move in the middle of nowhere and not be ale to make an income. Making an income will be a major factor in deciding where we'll move. Another factor will be the cost of land, although we'll be renting for a while.

I have relatives in Halifax and other part of NS so it would be nice to move there, I just have no idea where to move that would be country and yet close to some city for work and ministry.

BTW thanks for adding me. I have been a member since 2005 but have not really been here much. Back then I was mainly on Club Adventist and finally got tired of the back and forth and the non Adventist teaching that I was seeing.

It would be nice if people spent their time online building up the people of God and encouraging each other, we get enough tearing down in the world.

I will check out that access denied problem tomorrow, as it is past my bed time now, although you should already have access.

Now back to the purpose of your thread.

You may want to contact the Maritime Conference to see if they may have any openings for you down the road as a Bible Worker in the area of giving Bible Studies, Church Planting, etc. They seem to be focusing more on that lately.

As far a Country Living goes, you have lots of choices in the outskirts of the cities Halifax NS, Moncton NB, Saint John NB, Fredericton NB, etc. and the towns of Sussex NB, Truro NS, New Glasgow NS, etc. A good church plant location would be Sussex, NB, which is about an hour away from two major NB cities, namely Moncton and Saint John.

Our Maritime Conference Campgrounds is located along the Northumberland Strait about half way between the villages of Wallace, NS and Pugwash, NS.
