Quote:
The light that we have upon the third angel’s message is the true light. The mark of the beast is exactly what it has been proclaimed to be. All in regard to this matter is not yet understood, and will not be understood until the unrolling of the scroll; but a most solemn work is to be accomplished in our world. “Cry aloud; spare not; life up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgressions, and the house of Jacob their sin.”

Quote:

And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. Rev 17:1-2.

The Euphrates, Key to Identifying the Kings of the North, South and East

According to Genesis 2 the Euphrates is the fourth of four rivers that originated from the central spring in the Garden of Eden that watered the earth before the flood.

Quote:
And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. The name of the first is Pison: . . . And the name of the second river is Gihon: . . .And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: . . .And the fourth river is Euphrates. Gen 2:10-14 .

The name Euphrates means “rushing” or “to break forth” implying a river prone to overflow its banks and flood. This characteristic is used in scripture to describe the nations that occupied the Euphrates basin, the Assyrians and Babylonians. These empires were notorious for their grasping ambition that was pictured as an overflowing river that would not be contained within its own banks.
Quote:

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel. Isa 8:7-8.

The Euphrates is also significant in scripture as the divinely appointed north-eastern boundary of the Promised Land. Israel only extended it's territory to the Euphrates briefly under King David and Solomon's rule but all of the territory to the south-west of the Euphrates was allotted to them by God as part of their divine inheritance:
Quote:

And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee. . . .Turn you, and take your journey, and go to the mount of the Amorites, and unto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plain, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the south, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and unto Lebanon, unto the great river, the river Euphrates. Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them. . . . Every place whereon the soles of your feet shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the uttermost sea shall your coast be. Exo 23:31 Deu 1:7, 8, 11:24.

God through the prophets warned the Israelites that they would be dispossessed and taken captive beyond the Euphrates. They were removed beyond that limit because the Euphrates marked the north-eastern boarder of the promised land:
Quote:

For the LORD shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking the LORD to anger. 1Ki 14:15.

Revelation 16 draws on this history to help us understand end time events:
Quote:

And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. Rev 16:12

In Isaiah we have an ancient prophecy that helps us identify the Kings of the East that cross the dried up Euphrates in Revelation 16:

Quote:
And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, [the Euphates] and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt. Isa 11:15 and 16.

The Kings of the East of Revelation 16 are the dispossessed of spiritual Israel who repent and return to God via the “highway for the remnant” that God provides in the last days for their liberation. In their humiliation they overcome as kings and are liberated from the bondage of sin, set free by divine decree. Just as the Jordan was dried up to allow Israel passage into their inheritance the Euphrates is dried up to allow back the remnant of Israel into the heavenly Promised Land. And just as the crossing of the Jordan was immediately followed by the miraculous overthrow of Jericho, so the drying up of the Euphrates portends the overthrow and utter destruction of Babylon at the hand of the hosts of spiritual Israel in the battle of Armageddon.

At Jericho's overthrow there was a seven fold warning of impending doom, each day beginning with a warning blast of a trumpet like the seven trumpets of Revelation 8 to 11 that portend the overthrow of spiritual Babylon. As Jericho received a seven fold trumpet warning culminating in a seven fold march around the city on the seventh day, and as Jericho's destruction was immediate and complete, at the end Babylon is completely destroyed in one hour. The final trumpet and shout that brought down the mighty walls of Jericho apparently resonated with the earth. In the same way, the quaking of the earth by the armies of God is the means God uses at the final destruction of Babylon at the seventh trumpet and plague:
Quote:

And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, [this trumpet blast and voices and shouts of the host announces that the rule of Babylon is over] and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. . . . And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail [this shows the tools that God uses to bring Babylon's rule to an end]. . . . And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done. And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great. And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath. Rev 11:15, 16; Rev 16:17 -19.

Quote:
And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. . . . He shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps. But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. Dan 11:40-45.

The statue of Nebuchadnezzar's dream in Daniel 2 has two legs of iron and feet of iron and clay. The legs represent the Roman empire in its two divisions, Eastern and Western and also in its two phases, pagan and papal. The two feet of iron and clay are the two successors of Rome, the beast and the image of it. In Revelation 13, when the wound is healed the world wonders after the beast. Then after this or about the same time, the lamb-like beast makes an image of the first beast. The pope's speech to the joint session of Congress on October 24, 2015 in Washington DC was a significant step in the healing process but the full healing of the wound will take place in the old world while the image will be formed in the new.

According to Daniel 11:30 the event that triggers the full healing is when “ships of Chittim” block or defeat the plans of the King of the North, which is the USA and its allies. Chittim in Hebrew designates Cyprus or a Cypriot and according to Strongs can also refer to an islander in general. (Strongs word H3794.) Kittim or Chittim was a great grandson of Noah through Japhath one of the sons whose descendants soon after the flood forgot the God of their fathers. In biblical texts, Chittim as well as phrases such as “the isles of the sea” denote the lands of the gentiles and heathen. (For example, see Gen_10:4-5; Num_24:24; 1Ch_1:7, 1Ch_23:1, 1Ch_23:12; Psa_120:5; Eze_27:6) Ships of Chittim in Daniel 29 therefore indicates the naval power of the gentiles or non-christian nations at the end of history that are antagonistic towards Christianity. In this author's opinion the prime candidates are China and its allies and/or the Islamic nations and their allies.

While the inspired texts indicate that natural disasters will cause Americans and other Christian nations to seek God and mistakenly attribute their calamities to profaning Sunday, Daniel 11:29 forward indicates that the pivotal crises that causes these nations to abandon Protestantism and religious freedom and take action against the holy covenant is their military humiliation by the ships of Chittim. This will be so embarrassing to the national pride in the US that Americans will believe they are under God's judgments and in order to restore the Divine favor and to tap into the vast political power of Rome to meet the emergency they will endorse the re-establishment of the Holy Roman Empire in Europe and make an image of the same system in the New World. The US will make it their global mission to unite the world in Sunday worship as they seek to restore their power and prestige along with Europe as leaders of the New World Order. The scriptures indicate that this system will function as it did during the dark ages but it will quickly come under the judgment of God as trumpet after trumpet sounds and bowl after bowl poured out. Just as the seven trumpet blasts at Jericho were harbingers of it's swift coming fate, the seven trumpets of Revelation portend the overthrow and utter destruction of Babylon.

Ellen White tells us that the mixture of iron and clay in the feet of the image of Daniel 2 represents a mixture of churchcraft and statecraft. Similarly, the beast and woman in Revelation 17 symbolize the same adulterous union of an impure church, Babylon with the state she rides, the beast. The woman represents the fallen religious institutions of the west, the seven-headed beast she rides represents the political powers, and together they form the last day coalition committing spiritual fornication. They are the ones to subdue and overrun other, non-Christian nations, setting up their tabernacle or governing body in the Holy Land between the sea and the glorious holy mountain. Whether that is literal or symbolic time will tell. If literal this will appear to fulfill the prophetic understanding of many modern Christians that during the post-rapture tribulation Christ's kingdom will be set up in Palestine. The 8th head which is not of the seven is Satan impersonating Christ, again rounding out the expectation of many modern Christians that Christ will set up his millennial kingdom in present day Palestine.

But tidings or news from the east greatly troubles the King of the North, spiritual Babylon. This news is the three angles messages which are authenticated by the divine trumpet blasts. When this Elijah message is given by the Kings of the East, it alarms the King of the North who goes out in great fury to destroy and to “utterly make away many.” Daniel 11:44. This is the battle of Armageddon and it culminates in the death decree issued against all who do not accept the counterfeit kingdom with its counterfeit day of worship of the counterfeit Christ. According to Ellen White the battle of Armageddon is primarily spiritual and she equates it with the loud cry of Revelation 18. The three angel's messages and the battle or Armageddon are symbols of the final conflict under the latter rain and the good new is that the conflict ends in victory for God's people who overcome the dragon by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony and by the physical and spiritual overthrow of the whore by the 10 kings.

When oppressive Babylon crosses the limits of Divine forbearance she is judged by God through her neighbors, the ten horns of the beast she rides, (Rev. 13:1, 16:12 and 17:3, 12) which have their parallel in the ten toes of the image of Daniel 2. These ten kings burn her with fire and her destruction is so terrible and complete that the great men of the earth, the world's trade czars, politicians, kings and business leaders, withdraw far from Babylon to watch it burn from a safe distance.

Quote:

And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.” “The merchants of the earth," that have "waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies," "shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, and saying, Alas, alas that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! For in one hour so great riches is come to nought.” Revelation 17:12, 13,16; 18:11, 3, 15-17. (See GC 656.)

I'll finish up soon with some closing thoughts on the Euphrates. In the mean time, let me know if you have any thoughts.

We know from Daniel 11 that at the end the King of the South pushes at the King of the North but is overwhelmed and overrun by the King of the North. In contrast the ten kings prevail against Babylon, the whore and for one hour reign with the beast. “He (the King of the North, Babylon) shall come to his end, and none shall help him.” (Dan. 11:45). Here is the parallel description in Revelation 16 where the whore is defeated at Armageddon:
Quote:
And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. . . And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. Rev 16:12, 16.

Notice that the Euphrates is dried up and this is what fully unleashes the the winds of strife. Compare the above passage with the parallel passage below:
Quote:
And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. Rev. 9:13-19.

The terrible description above is of a global incendiary conflict that will unseat the whore. Shortly before this point Babylon, King of the North, has overrun the King of the South, drying up the buffer of the ancient Islamic states that occupied the Euphrates valley. As an occupying force the King of the North plants his tabernacle or seat of govenment between the sea and the glorious holy mountain. (See Daniel 11:45 above.)

Yet, the King of the South although he is overrun may not be completely overwhelmed by the King of the North, and therefore could be part of the final 10 king coalition, the ten toes and horns, that destroys Babylon.

The good news, as we know is that the climax comes when the kingdoms of earth are restored to Christ. The stone cut out without hands pulverizes the feet and the entire image, the wind sweeps the dust away and the stone becomes a mighty mountain filling the earth. When? At the battle of Armageddon. But who are the protagonists in this final war? Who are the Kings of the East? If we are faithful, it will be you and me. Notice what Ellen White says:
Quote:

The battle of Armageddon will be fought, and that day must find none of us sleeping. Wide-awake we must be, as wise virgins having oil in our vessels with our lamps. What is this? Grace, Grace. {14MR 286.3}

The power of the Holy Ghost must be upon us, and the Captain of the Lord's host will stand at the head of the angels of heaven to direct the battle. Solemn events before us are yet to transpire. Trumpet after trumpet is to be sounded, vial after vial poured out one after another upon the inhabitants of the earth. {14MR 287.1}

We are [to] think how heaven regards these events, and to be in harmony with the transactions going on in heaven in preparing a people to stand in this, the day of the Lord, and having done all to stand [Eph. 6:13]. Let the light and power of the sunbeams of righteousness enter into the soul. [Rev. 19:1-6, quoted. Reproduced below.] {14MR 288.2}

We need to study the pouring out of the seventh vial. The powers of evil will not yield up the conflict without a struggle. But Providence has a part to act in the battle of Armageddon. When the earth is lighted with the glory of the angel of Revelation eighteen, the religious elements, good and evil, will awake from slumber, and the armies of the living God will take the field. {Mar 257.1}

That day is now when “the earth is lighted with the glory of the angel of Revelation eighteen”. It's time for the sleeping virgins to “awake from slumber, and the armies of the living God [to] take the field.” Always remember bothers and sisters when the going is rough we are on the winning side. It is now and it will be in the future “the best of times and the worst of times”. But soon the race will be over and the victory won.
Quote:

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth! Rev. 19:1-6.

Here is a good description of the meaning of the King of the East:

"The word Armageddon itself is a composite word. It comes from Har Megiddon, which literally means, “the mountain of Megiddo.” This prophecy refers to a mountain that is located at the crossroads of the ancient world. Many armies met at Megiddo and fought a number of decisive battles. Archaeologists have discovered fortifications built by Ahab, Solomon and other Bible kings. Joshua defeated the kings of Canaan there (Judges 5:19), and Deborah and Barak defeated the armies of Sisera there as well (Judges 4). It was also at Endor, on the eastern edge of Megiddo, where Saul turned his back on God and went to a witch for advice. The next day, he died during a battle with the Philistines. Elijah confronted the priests of Baal in a spiritual showdown on Mt.Carmel—at Megiddo. A lot has happened at Megiddo—so much so that it has come to stand for conflict and struggle. It has come to stand for great spiritual controversy in particular.

In Daniel 5, we find the story of Belshazzar (grandson to Nebuchadnezzar) throwing a blasphemous feast in which he was apparently trying to reassure the citizens of Babylon that their city was indestructible. To prove it, he exhibited the spoils of past victories, including the vessels from the temple in Jerusalem. Why did the citizens of Babylon need reassuring? Because there was a massive army from the east—the Medo-Persian army—parked just outside the city. Cyrus the Persian couldn't break through the walls of the city, so he decided to go under them where the Euphrates River passed through the city. In a dramatic fulfillment of the prophecy found in Isaiah 44:27-45:1, written more than 100 years before Cyrus was born, he drained the Euphrates River and marched under the walls. Because of the drunken feast going on inside, the gates along the river inside the city were left open. The city fell in one night, just as God told Belshazzar (Daniel 5:22-25).

If you take this story and compare it with the prophecy of Armageddon, you will notice some startling parallels. In Revelation 16:12, the Euphrates River is dried up to make way for the kings of the east (Cyrus was from the east). Revelation 16:19 tells us that the end result of Armageddon is that Babylon falls! Cyrus, who attacked Babylon from the east, is called “God's anointed” in Isaiah 45:1. Jesus Christ is God's anointed, and He also is depicted as coming from the east (see Matthew 24:27). The prophecy of Armageddon is pointing us forward to the day that spiritual Babylon (representing spiritual confusion) is destroyed by the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

The battle of Armageddon points us to something much bigger than a simple valley or a physical war. It is a symbol of a spiritual battle raging inside each one of us. That is why John is so careful to refer to the “Mountain of Megiddo,” or Har Megiddon. John is using language in Revelation 16 to point us back to the showdown on Carmel. As earth's history winds up, we need to be sure that we are standing on the right side. Once and for all, the struggle between good and evil will come to a close."

When I posted this half a year ago I wanted to draw attention especially to Daniel 11:29 forward which Ellen White says will be repeated. I think we're dangerously close now to that happening. The main domino that is about to fall which will bring on the final crises is this imo:

Quote
Daniel 11:29 forward indicates that the pivotal crises that causes these nations (America and Europe) to abandon Protestantism and religious freedom and take action against the holy covenant is their military humiliation by the ships of Chittim.

To get more of the context see the introductory posts. I think we ought to be praying for the volatile situation in Iran and for the men and women in uniform in the Strait of Hormuz and for soldiers and their families on all sides.
