Well, to grow in Christ we have to get close to Him as we see from this text...
Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
NKJV has it this way..
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.
And we see this...
Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
2 Peter 1:2-3 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
But always remember... 1 Corinthians 13:2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

The true witness writes to the church of the last days: "Behold I stand at the door and knock, if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me. Rev. 3: 20
This is written specifically to the church. A church that thinks it is rich, and increased with goods, and needs nothing; and does not know that they are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.
They know about Jesus, they know a lot of things, but they keep Jesus on the peripheral of their lives, they don't invite Him in to their lives.

In order to grow in Christ we need to be attached to Christ.
John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 15:5 I am the vine, ye [are] the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast [them] into the fire, and they are burned. 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you
We are just as dependent upon Christ, in order to live a holy life, as is the branch upon the parent stock for growth and fruitfulness. Apart from Him we have no life. We have no power to resist temptation or to grow in grace and holiness. However, abiding in Him, (through prayer, bible study, contemplation, praise, and testifying of His greatness) He enables us to flourish. Drawing our life from Him, we will not wither nor be fruitless.
