We read that man will be changed to what some call a 'glorious body" based on Philippians 3:20?21:
Philippians 3:20-21
20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
Some say man will be raised with a 'Glorious Body' others go with "spiritual body" based on
1 Corinthians 15:35-44:
44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
How is the body to be changed, what manner will it be after the resurrection?
I think we can safely say, it will be a new glorious spiritual body!
It' not one or the other -- it's simply a new glorious spiritual body?
Reading through the whole chapter in 1 Corinthians 15, one gets the sense that Paul is somewhat frustrated at the philosophical, doubt filled, questions people were asking. (1 Cor. 15:35)
People doubting the resurrection and arguing that it was impossible, citing the limitations of the human body as some kind of proof that God couldn't raise the dead and take them to heaven.
Paul even calls them "fools"!(vs 36)
Nature itself attests to the fact God is not limited to one model in His ability to create.
God can give fish bodies that can live and breath under water. He gives birds bodies that are light enough for them to sail through the sky. He gives the moon a body that reflects light, while the sun has a body that burns perpetually giving off heat and light.
So why should people question and think God cannot give the raised dead (and the transformed living) new glorious, spiritual bodies, just because it doesn't match their concept of how they picture a resurrection.
Putting Paul's frustration aside --
We do have clues what this glorious, spiritual body will be like.
1. It's not limited by the same natural laws which limit our present bodies.
After His resurrection, Jesus walked right through walls and locked doors, appearing in the midst of His disciples in their locked room.
He ascended to heaven defying gravity and air pressure.
We can think of angels who can travel at seemingly the speed of light.
2. The glorious, spiritual body does not degenerate -- there is no corruption either physical or spiritual.
3. Yet it is capable of eating, talking, walking, being touched (remember doubting Thomas). The resurrected body is a physical body, capable of physical activity. It has real substance though we don't understand what that substance is like.
4. But it's not "flesh and blood" in the same sense we are now.
1 Cor. 15:50 "Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption."
Angels are not flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12)
5. The resurrected will be able to think, feel and plan. Whether building a house, planting and training plants, (Is. 65:21) "they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them."
6. Elijah was translated -- no space suit needed to ride to heaven in a fiery chariot. He had hands and threw down his cloak. The disciples recognized Elijah as one of the men on the Mt. of transfiguration with Jesus.
Basically, we can agree with Paul that we simply don't have a clue what our bodies will be like, but we can believe that God is very capable of giving us a new glorious, spiritual body, that will be very real, and it will verily be us, our character, our disposition cultivated by God's grace while we lived here on earth, it will not anyone else.. It's not some vapor floating about, but a real body.
