Consider this passage from Rev. 12:7-10:

When the devil lost and was cast out what was it that ended? Was it the war or the first battle in the war?

The "war" wasn't over until the cross. When Jesus cried "It is finished" that was the end of the war. We are living after the victory. Satan is still alive, still tempting and causing trouble, but what can he do to us if we stand under the blood stained banner of Prince Emmanuel. He is a whipped dog.

Rev 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
