Progress Report on The Seventh Day Video Project
December 1, 2001
Dear Friends:
How the world has changed since I last wrote to you!!!
Now we know from experience what we used to know only from prophetic warnings. The tragedy of September 11 has shaken civilized society and given us a glimpse of what surely lies ahead.
I don’t want to try to match headlines with Bible prophecy. Neither do I want to focus on questionable or sensational interpretations. I want to take a larger view, to watch for sweeping changes within our society.
We’ve all seen something amazing happen in the past two months, something that I fully believe shows how quickly this world could reach it’s final crisis. It happened in the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Center and Pentagon disasters.
You’ve noticed that people have become extremely patriotic - even militant. That’s a natural reaction. Immediately we saw a sense of unity against a "common enemy." The whole country, it seemed, was in favor of taking up arms against the terrorists. Witness the unity in Congress!
How quickly it happened! Think about it for a minute. We live in a pluralistic society. Our country is made up of millions of people with various ethnic and cultural roots, diverse political loyalties, and huge differences in moral values and religious persuasions. Yet the events of a single day caused almost instantaneous unity.
Isn’t that just a little bit scary? Did you notice something else. While the vast majority supported a rapid military response, did you notice voices here and there opposing war and calling for peace? Did you notice the reaction they got? This small minority became the target of name-calling and ridicule for its unpopular, non-politically-correct position.
One popular talk-show host shared a few comments she had received from listeners reacting to the handful who dissented. One message went something like this:
"This is a time for unity. We don’t need 'peace-niks' here in our country!"
What a message! Does this remind you of anything you’ve studied in prophecy? The concept of national unity combined with the specter of intolerance toward dissenters sounds like an end-time scenario to me. Does it sound familiar to you?
I’m sure you can understand why September 11 brought an intensified sense of urgency to our staff here at LLT. We believe that The Seventh Day documentary series has a part to play in the final warning to this lost world.
How much time do we have? How long will television networks remain open to us? How long before some even-greater catastrophe unites our society in a false religious revival, isolating God’s remnant as "the execration of the earth"? Before that happens we must get the truth about the Sabbath before the widest possible audience.
Yes, we are hurrying. Several weeks ago we filmed the final interviews for Part 3, with two fascinating professors, one of whom is also a Greek Orthodox priest. Dr. George Dragas, of the Greek Orthodox Seminary in Boston, outlined the Great Schism between the Roman and Greek Churches, a separation that took place over 1000 years ago!
One of the primary causes of that division was the Bible Sabbath. The Church of Rome required fasting on the Sabbath while the Greek Church celebrated the Sabbath as a festival in honor of creation and redemption. As Dr. Dragas said, the Sabbath was the one day of the week that could never be a fast day, but must be observed as a day of celebration. Don’t you love that?
On December 10, 11, and 12 we will finish our filming for the second and third parts of The Seventh Day in both English and Spanish. Then comes the final post-production push so that we can get both Part 2 and Part 3 into your hands as quickly as possible.
As always, this phase of the process is most demanding on our financial resources. Your continued prayers and support are especially appreciated right now.
Our old world is full of uncertainty, isn’t it? In fact, the future could look downright terrifying! The peace and prosperity we’ve enjoyed in the US will not last forever. Prejudice, intolerance, persecution, and strife lie ahead. And what about that small minority whose opinions don’t match those of the majority, whose refusal to cooperate for the sake of peace is considered criminal?
Now is the time for the Sabbath to be exalted; now is the time for the Sabbath message of Peace with God to be understood.
We are confident that our divine Leader will continue to guide us. May He do the same for you. I cherish your prayers and support.
Pat Arrabito
