There are a lot of interesting thoughts being expressed here. That's all I can say for now as I need to get ready to go to church on this beautiful and sunny Sabbath Spring day.

I have to agree with you there. This happened to me shortly after I joined the church. But through that experience, I learned probably more than a quiz could have taught me about what I’m good at and what I’m not. But I also think it would be good to have some special ministry focused on helping each other develop our spiritual gifts. I’m not sure, though, just how “quizzes” will help us get any closer to putting people in offices/ministries where they are most effective without the “jealousies”. Unless, perhaps, the spiritual gift inventory for each member is shared with the nominating committee. I’m not sure if that’s what you meant and I’m not sure anyone would want that.
Whatever is done, it needs to be something sustained. Too often, we’ve had some program in our church geared towards just that kind of thing, only to have it later fizzle due to lack of interest, or lack of corporate effort to make it happen.

P.S. Daryl, I hope your Sabbath is as beautiful as mine. Sunny, 80°F (~27°C). Spring is springing nicely!

If you are serious about Spiritual Gifts, and determining which gifts you have, it takes more than a quiz. There is a series of indicators that can be used. Although, it is amazing how closely the individual indicators show the gifts of individuals. However, I would not rely on one only. Refering to the process as a "quiz" is not taking the process seriously. And will plant in minds that the process is "just a game". I guess if that is the attitude into which the process is entered, it will do no good.
I would be interested to hear from those who do not believe the process can be a tool to use in determining Spiritual Gifts what process can be relied upon. I have seen too many people in the church placed into postiions in the local church that they have no talent for, and they are desitined for failure. If we find and work in the place God has for us, we will succeed. If we try to invest "talents" we do not have, we will fail. Just as the servent was held accountable for only his talents. He was not visited with about the fact that the one talent over which he had no control was not invested. Nor was the servent who had one talent praised for the use of talents over which he had no control. They knew what talents each had. We are held just as accouontable to discover and use the Spiritual Gifts God has given us.

I have read more closely some of the messages. It has become clear that not many have been involved with a church dedicated to discover and use the Spiritual Gifts of its members. If a church is serious, the nominating committee process is trashed. There is a small committee that reviews the talents of the members and suggests a ministry for that individual that fits with the Spiritual Gifts. As for the lady that fell off of the narrow path, I suspect that no Spiritual Gifts determinations were held. Do you know that she did not have the gift all the time, but was not ready to use it. The use of the gifts is not the choice of the Holy Spirit, the is the child of God's choice. The Child of God does not choose his or her gift, that is the choice of the Holy Spirit. The positive use of Spiritual Gifts by a church in a focused, productive manner, it takes committment of the whole church. Taking a quiz by an individual will help the individual determine what he or she should focus on. But in order to really use the Gifts, the whole church must realize that not everyone has every gifts. And if my gift is to teach, then I should be a SS teacher. If my gift is administration and spiritual guidance, then I should be an elder. The SS teacher in the position of elder, or the elder in the possession of SS teacher will result in failure. Unless that individual has the gift for both responsibilities.
