Memory Text:

"If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Psalm 11:3 KJV).

The Memory Text goes to show just how important the foundations are!

The following from the Sabbath Afternoon section also brings this out:

Quote:

We all build upon foundations. In the most literal sense, we build our lives upon the rocks beneath our feet; but in another, we build our lives around the principles that govern us. Atheists, religious fanatics, skeptics, scientists—everyone governs their lives by fundamental principles, whether they acknowledge those principles or not.
----
As Christians, our principles are found in and through the person of Jesus Christ, the One in whom "we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). And yet, we know about Jesus through the Bible. So, the Bible, in essence, works as the foundation for our lives and our faith. And, in a sense, Genesis serves as the "foundation" of the Bible, kind of like the "strange black stone" far beneath the earth that held up the ground immediately beneath Laurens's feet.

Sunday's study is titled Genesis and the New Testament.

How did Christ and the authors of the New Testament view the authenticity and veracity of Genesis?

Seeing nobody replied, I will answer the question myself by saying that Christ and the authors of the New Testament viewed what was written in Genesis as truth, as the authentic Word of God.

From Sunday's study:

Quote:

What other examples can you find of how doubt regarding what might seem like a "small" thing can, if taken to its logical conclusion, lead to doubt about major things, as well? Why, then, should we be so careful regarding our trust in the Bible as the Word of God? After all, once you start doubting the Bible, what's left?

This says it all: Once you start doubting the Bible, what's left?

Monday's study says that the "first book of the Bible rings with the might and power of God. He is seen as the Creator, Judge, Exemplar, Sustainer, Most High, Almighty, and Everlasting God. As the Sovereign, He not only exists before everything but also brings everything into existence."

God is seen as the:

1 - Creator
2 - Judge
3 - Sustainer
4 - Most High
5 - Almighty
6 - Everlasting God

What are some of the "foundations" in your own life, basic things upon which so much else rests? How firm are these foundations? Are you sure they are firm enough to hold you even during the weightiest of trials?
Unquote.

Money! How firm is this foundation? Can we live without money but faith only? No! But money can make a living without faith. So, which is more firm as the foundation of our life between both?

Obviously, the rich young ruler had a problem with his money to the degree he walked away from Christ when he asked him to go and sell what he has and come and follow Him.

If he had been willing to leave all behind, even his money, to follow Christ, this person would have been His 13th disciple.

Jesus said: "Man shall not live by bread only but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."

The church that E.G. White joined believed that the Holy Scriptures of the old and new testaments are the "only rule of faith and practice".
In 1980, the leaders of the SDA church removed the phrase "only rule of faith and practice" from the SDA beliefs.
By removing this phrase, are the leaders of the SDA church using another foundation for its doctrines and beliefs besides the "Bible and the Bible only"?

Clearly not, but some understandings of Scripture were given by vision to Ellen White once the Bible study of the leaders had reached an empasse: this divine intervention does not change our protestant heritage, just shows a difference from the practice and methods of our heritage - not forgetting that we came out of Methodism, not Lutheranism.

The foundation of our doctrines is both Spirit approved and Spirit led, in our Bible study - much like the early church sorted out the truth for its day.
