Sunday's section is about God in Heaven, Humanity on Earth. The first seven verses of Ecc. 5 speaks to the way we should relate on Earth to the one and only God in Heaven. God cares how you approach Him, God cares how you talk to Him, and God cares about you paying your vows to Him.
If we tell the Lord that we plan on doing something, we'd better do it. However, that's easier said than done. How often have we made vows to God, promising and swearing oaths that we will stop doing this or that or that we will always do such and such, only to fail? Sure, we might have meant it at the time, and really tried, but we failed either way. What's our situation then?
How many of us have told God that if He did this, we would do that and failed to do what we said we would do after He did what we asked Him to do for us? I guess our answer to that tells us what our situation is between humanity and God. Knowing the situation, what is the solution?

Even though we obviously do not always treat God as He expects and deserves to be treated, what has He provided to help restore us to the right relationship with Himself? By beholding we are changed into the same image. And I believe that Christ's demonstration of the right relationship with God is the best way we can see how we should do it.
By God's grace, Arnold
There is no excuse for any one in taking the position that there is no more truth to be revealed, and that all our expositions of Scripture are without an error. The fact that certain doctrines have been held as truth for many years by our people, is not a proof that our ideas are infallible. Age will not make error into truth, and truth can afford to be fair. No true doctrine will lose anything by close investigation. RH 12/20/1892

On an island south of Iceland there is a huge rock called Heimaklettur – the Home Rock. I have always wanted to get up there, but not any more at my age. Young people love to climp up on the top grassy plateau and play games there. At one time, many years ago, one of the boys started runing very fast, and soon he could not stop in the the downhill slope leading to the edge. It would be certin death if he did not manage to stop.
In his desparation he started praying that God would save his life. If he´d survive he´d dedicate his whole life to God. Just before he reached the edge he threw himself against a big stone where he could stop, and his life was saved.
Later on some of his friends asked him what he was doing about his promise to God.
- Can´t one ever make a joke, was his cynical reply.
"Here is a last piece of advice. If you believe in goodness and if you value the approval of God, fix your minds on the things which are holy and right and pure and beautiful and good. Model your conduct on what you have learned from me, on what I have told you and shown you, and you will find the God of peace will be with you."
