As Dave's mother, I appreciate everyone's patience with his dyslexia. All our children have dyslexia to some degree, Dave and one of his brothers being most severely afflicted. It seemed so insurmountable that when they were in elementary school, we were told by educational psychologists not to push them or expect too much of them because they would never be able to do more than manual labor. I pushed anyway, and insisted they have all the benefits of special education. Dave's brother obtained a Master of Philosophy and several scholarships, and is now a teacher, but it was very very hard for him. He can finally spell very well, but that is a fairly recent development. Dave graduates next week with an Associates and 3.65 GPA in spite of his spelling problems, and will be working on a Bachelors. He has worked so hard on his spelling, and it was a lot worse than it is now. I believe that by the grace of God it will eventually come together for him.

Personally I never noticed Dave's spelling goofs. I was more interested in his good Adventist-Christian reponses. I appreciate survivors, as my wife has become blind and that is quite a struggle for her. But she has learned to swim, use the computer, paint in oils and will be in the national Marathon here Borneo this Decemeber representing our blind organization. With the Master and those who love you by your side, nothing is impossible.

Congratulations to Jan for having a son who has overcome difficulties and Dave for doing so.
I've always been a horrible speller, in fact I rarely wrote a word before the event of spell check, which I usually use for all my posts on here. If I was a youngster today they would likely say I'm both dyslectic and have ADD. In any case I learned to embrace something that has been attributed to various people, including Mark Twain:
"I never thought much of a person who could only figure out one way to spell a word"
I just love that,

It amazes me how someone can learn to oil paint when they have lost their sight..it must take an incredible amount of discipline and courage. Hope the Marathon is a wonderful experience for her. Oh I love that maybe-Mark-Twain saying, brings everything into perspective. The spell check was never too helpful for Dave's situation, it always substituted words other than what he intended, sometimes with disastrous results.

I'm one also that doesn't notice misspellings that much. That is because I make my share of them and I don't have any excuse! And make lots of typing errors as well. I always know what people are saying anyway.
And Phil is exactly right--Dave always has such good things to say, I always read his posts!
