What is the difference between Truth & Doctrine?
Perhaps, in order to answer the above question, we need to first ask and answer the two following questions:
1 - How do we define truth?
2 - How do we define doctrine?

All doctrine is truth; but not all truth is doctrine.

All doctrine is truth? What do you mean by that?

The doctrines in the Bible are true. They represent the truth about this or that belief. For example, each one of the 28 fundamental SDA beliefs are true. They represent the biblical truths we believe.

"Doctrine" is a teaching. It can be true or false.
"Truth" is always true. "Truth" reflects reality; it is a description of the way things really are.
It is truth which will bring about the judgment. That is, the revelation of truth is the means by which God is bringing the Great Controversy to an end. It is by truth, not by force (which is principle of the government of the enemy only, not God's government) that God will win the war.
Our purpose in life is to learn the truth and share that truth with others.
Jesus Christ said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" and "The truth will set you free." What is this truth? It is that when we have seen Jesus, we have seen the Father. This truth sets us free, and this truth wins the Great Controversy. It already has for all unfallen beings. Only unfallen human remain in ignorance as to the truth about God.
The last message to be given to the world, a message of mercy, is the truth about God; a revelation of His character. All the earth will be judged by that truth. It will either result in complete reconciliation (the atonement is complete) on the part of those who accept it, or destruction on the part of those who refuse it, because destruction is the inevitable result of all who refuse to live by the principles of God's government, which are the principles of truth, the only principles which give life.

Joh 18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
What a wonderful revelation of truth.
It is sad how "many doctrines" have muddied the water of life; the truth.

The doctrines contained in the Bible are true as stated in the following: quote:
2 Tim. 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The problem though at times is man's interpretation of what is in the Bible. When it isn't interpreted correctly, and that wrong interpretation is taught as a so-called true Bible doctrine, it becomes a false doctrine.

And that will continue to be true as long as we continue to reject an objective standard. Presently, when there is a disagreement among theologians they have no way of deciding the correct position. It all comes down to a matter of human authority. This is shameful. ====== Removed quote of previous post. - Daryl [ November 06, 2005, 06:36 PM: Message edited by: Daryl Fawcett ]
