Quote. Hi James, I think what Tom is saying is that sin is integral to our human nature. Jesus taught that if we hate our brother then we have in essence murdered Him. Also if we lust in our minds we have committed adultery. The word “flesh” is in Romans is in reference to the human nature which is just as much a sick mind as it is a sick body.
In Christ, scott Unquote.
The fact that we need a transformation from this body of death to the everlasting body at the 2nd return of Christ (1 Corinthians 15:50-54) gives evidence that “sin is in our members.” This is, I think, is the DNA and genes we inherit from our ancestors that has it’s origin to Adam.
What is in the mind is the urge or desires of the flesh that sends it’s signal to the brain, so that we want to have or to do what sin is and we did sin by following it.
Just as James said: “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin; and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” – James 1:14, 15.
Therefore, Paul said that we should not live by the flesh but after the Spirit (Romans 8:4, 5).
The war is between the flesh (the desires) and the Spirit but this war is held in our mind, not in the flesh. That’s why we still need a body transformation even though we had been transformed in our heart through faith.
In His love
James S.

Quote:
What you instead ought to do (considering the position you have taken) is to show us why Jesus did NOT come to save us from our sins by His blood.
But Jesus DID come to save us from our sins by His blood. What we are discussing is what that means. I think it means what Paul says here:
For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. (Col. 1:19-21)
Or Peter here:
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.(1 Pet. 3:18)
I also addressed this in the Fifield quote I presented in the atonement thread, so I won't repost it here.
I will repost the following statement from the Spirit of Prophecy, however, which clearly lays out how the cross of Christ saves us:
How, then, are we to be saved? "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness," so the Son of man has been lifted up, and everyone who has been deceived and bitten by the serpent may look and live. "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29. The light shining from the cross reveals the love of God. His love is drawing us to Himself. If we do not resist this drawing, we shall be led to the foot of the cross in repentance for the sins that have crucified the Saviour. Then the Spirit of God through faith produces a new life in the soul. The thoughts and desires are brought into obedience to the will of Christ. The heart, the mind, are created anew in the image of Him who works in us to subdue all things to Himself. Then the law of God is written in the mind and heart, and we can say with Christ, "I delight to do Thy will, O my God." Ps. 40:8. (DA 175, 176)
Those who wait for the Bridegroom's coming are to say to the people, "Behold your God." The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love.

Well said, James!
The Good News is that the Spirit is stronger than the flesh:
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Ga. 5:16)

I agree with this 100%. Salvation is a free gift to all men, but how many will actually open up their minds and commune with God through the Holy Spirit. We can't be changed unless we let Him in. There is no power to change in us.
In Christ, scott
