Why Your Scale Might Be Stuck
Maybe you're cutting the wrong calories! Reducing "liquid calories" from beverages such as soda, fruit punch, and sweetened iced tea is 5 times more effective for weight loss than cutting back on calories from solid foods, according to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The researchers say that because swallowing beverages does not satiate the body the way chewing solid food does, it causes people to overeat. --Prevention, August 2009.
Comment: Ditching the soda, etc., and cutting way back on high-calorie solid foods does wonders for those who want to lose weight. And don't forget to exercise!

I think if they studied that more carefully they might find a large percentage of the weight loss from cutting out the beverages will be just water weight.
In my belief, the single best weight-control technique is getting adequate exercise.
Exercise does all of the following, and more:
-- Burns more calories -- Increases metabolic rate -- Regulates the resting heart rate -- Reduces appetite until metabolic needs exceed caloric intake -- Relieves stress, helping to regulate the adrenal glands which in turn affect metabolic rate -- Increases circulatory system capacity and efficiency -- Prevents insomnia -- Increases sense of well-being -- Increases muscle tone and mass, making it easier to burn calories while at the same time increasing strength -- Prevents depression (and many people eat more when depressed)
Exercise cannot be over-stressed in today's world.
Blessings,
Green Cochoa.
We can receive of heaven's light only as we are willing to be emptied of self. We can discern the character of God, and accept Christ by faith, only as we consent to the bringing into captivity of every thought to the obedience of Christ. And to all who do this, the Holy Spirit is given without measure. In Christ "dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him." [Colossians 2:9, 10.] {GW 57.1} -- Ellen White.

I agree with the emphasis on exercise. I've not heard this one before:
"Reduces appetite until metabolic needs exceed caloric intake"
I'd be interested in hearing more about this one.
Those who wait for the Bridegroom's coming are to say to the people, "Behold your God." The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love.

Tom, There's so much information out there on this point of exercise reducing the appetite, that I will let you choose which articles to look at in the results list of this Google search. Blessings, Green Cochoa.

I was interested on the specific point that it "Reduces appetite until metabolic needs exceed caloric intake".

Basically, and if you were to read some of those articles you would see this, exercise only reduces appetite under one of two conditions:
1) If the exercise is light to moderate, but not heavy; or 2) It will reduce the appetite temporarily.
If I go out and work very hard in my garden all morning, I am hardly hungry for lunch. But come supper time, my appetite will be good. This is because the caloric expenditure of the morning's work requires a replacement. But if I just take a walk for 20 minutes, my appetite might be reduced, and since I didn't really need the calories, I might never have an appetite "comeback."
Exercise regulates the appetite to what is necessary. If you need more calories to support your level of exercise, you will certainly have a strong appetite. But if you have been consuming more calories than required for your activity level, exercise will reduce your appetite. That's the point I was trying to bring out. The articles you will read there from that Google search go into detail about two key appetite-reducing hormones that exercise produces, and the amounts produced depend on the type and quantity of exercise. Apparently, aerobic exercise drops the appetite more than a non-aerobic one like weight lifting.
Blessings,
Green Cochoa.
