What Does the Bible Say About Health?

I think it would be appropriate to do a Bible study on health, therefore, what does the Bible have to say about health?

I think a godd Health message 101 would be great! I am actually very interested in learning, but have not had the time to research it a whole lot. Do we have any dieticians on the forum, or perhaps a good starting point? God Bless, Will

Some Bible verses that mention health:
Of course, there's 3 John 1:2 -- "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."
And there's always 1 Corinthians 6:19 -- "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"
That implies that we'd better take care of these bodies.
More verses --
Exodus 15:26 "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee."
2 Chronicles 7:14 "If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
Psalm 42:11 "Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."
Psalm 67: 1 "God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause His face to shine upon us; Selah. 2 That Thy way may be known upon earth, Thy saving health among all nations."
Psalm 103: 2 "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;"
Psalm 147:3 "He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."
Proverbs 3: 5 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones."
Proverbs 4: 20 "My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh."
Proverbs 12:18 "There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health."
Proverbs 16:24 "Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones."
Isaiah 53:5 "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed."
Isaiah 58: 6 "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward."
Malachi 4:2 "But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings;"
When Jesus sent out the seventy, He told them,
"And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you." Luke 10:9.
Indeed, I've heard it said that He spent more time healing the sick than He did teaching or preaching.
James 5:16 "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed."
A lot of the foregoing has to do with spiritual health, with a good attitude, speaking pleasant words, with being in a right relationship with God. So it's evident that a lot of being found in a physically healthy state is tied in with being spiritually healthy too.
2 Chronicles 7:14 even talks about God healing the land. We see a lot of disease these days being caused by environmental chemicals and pollution. God can protect us from even that.

I also believe that God established in Leviticus 11 some rules or laws on what can be eated and what can't be eaten for the sake of our health. Leviticus 11 concluded with the following:
quote:
Leviticus 11:46 This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth: 47 To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten. I think we often refer to these as the Health Laws, do we not?
By the way, I believe the cat also comes under the unclean, doesn't it not?

Daryl, Yep, you should not eat your cat or touch a dead cat according to Leviticus. Presumably you shouldnt eat a living cat either As for the quotes John posted, I want to point specifically to the Luke 10 and James 5 quotes. I think this divine part of restoring health deserves to be mentioned specificly. Are there any witnesses to health by prayer who could share? /Thomas
