I received the following email a couple of hours ago: ADRA is on the ground in Haiti and is supplying necessities for survival--water, food, medicines and shelter. Their aid and supplies are going out across that ravaged country to anyone in need, and as a church we are grateful to have them represent us in such a way.
However, our hearts go out in a special way to our Adventist brothers and sisters who have suffered so much. We have more than 335,000 church members in Haiti who need our help. We also have many churches and schools that have been destroyed.
So far, the following are the statistics about our members that we have received :
-600 members have been killed
-25,000 are homeless
-150 churches destroyed and many more need repairing
In addition to funds given to ADRA to further their response, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada, along with its conferences, have decided to contribute in a targeted way to the reconstruction of these important facilities. Each conference office has already pledged funding from their own budget and now offer to every member in Canada an opportunity to give.
The North American Division, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada, and the conferences across the country are asking our members to participate in a special offering for Haitian reconstruction projects to be administered directly from the offices of the Canadian Union.
THIS SPECIAL OFFERING will be taken on Sabbath, FEBRUARY 6 (some churches have chosen an earlier date) and we have titled this offering: "Haiti Disaster Reconstruction".
The needs are far greater than we know, and the destruction unbelievable. The church in Haiti needs us in North America to support them in every way possible.
Next week the SDACC will be emailing a bulletin insert to all the conferences to be sent out to the churches .
Anyone wishing to make early contributions or to carry on after the 6th of February are encouraged to place their donation in a tithe envelope and write "Haiti SDA Rebuild" on the envelope.
As information comes in, we will keep you informed about the projects that are most needed.

This seems to have caused massive damage and much death and destruction and the people certainly need our prayers in this terrible catastrophe... many of our church members have gone down to Haiti to set up water, search for survivors trapped in the buildings that collapsed and bring supplies. They are sending many medical personal from Florida Hospital to set up a medical presence and are orginizing flights and packages in Miami to send to Haiti.
......Thousands Feared Dead After Haitian Earthquake
"Humanitarian efforts have begun across the world in response to the devastating earthquake that struck near Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince, ..."
"The 7.0 magnitude quake that struck.. was the most powerful to hit the Caribbean nation in 200 years. Haitians are lining bodies along the streets of Port-au-Prince, where thousands are feared dead after a massive earthquake destroyed much of the capital."
"Haiti was rocked on Jan. 12 by the largest earthquake ever recorded in the area. The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 and was centered about 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince."
