As moderator on several sites I've notice that many ADVENTIST seem to take pleasure in "Rebuking their Brothers" online, and sometimes the purpose is more to hurt and injure rather than help or save the brother. Adventist are not unique in this as when people get on line, especially when behind an alias, they seem to lose some of their courtesy and much brotherly love of a Christian seems to get laid aside more often than not. But as CHRISTIANS we must never allow our feelings to cause even more damage when we try to correct error or help a brother (or sister) when they fail in understanding or following what truth teaches, or pick up a wrong view or private interpretation which leads them to error or worse, sin.

Paul had to confront Peter (and very strongly) on his failure on eating with Gentiles...

Galatians 2

Paul Opposes Peter

11When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. 12Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. 13The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray. 14When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs? 15"We who are Jews by birth and not 'Gentile sinners' 16know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified. 17"If, while we seek to be justified in Christ, it becomes evident that we ourselves are sinners, does that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not! 18If I rebuild what I destroyed, I prove that I am a lawbreaker. 19For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing,

.......Peter not only was contribiting to error he was drawing others with him "so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray." And the church as a whole had to confront the problem with these Jewish practices like circumcision which some erronously where trying to apply to the new converts, and telling them it was part of salvation.

Acts 15
The Council at Jerusalem
1Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: "Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved." 2This brought Paul and Barnabas into sharp dispute and debate with them. So Paul and Barnabas were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. 3The church sent them on their way, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria, they told how the Gentiles had been converted. This news made all the brothers very glad. 4When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and elders, to whom they reported everything God had done through them. 5Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, "The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses." 6The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear? 11No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

We must come together when there is error and decide on the matter and settle it as brothers in Christ. When we have to rebuke a brother as Paul did when Peter came to Antioch, "I opposed him to his face". We have to do it strongly, but always to save the brother from sin, not to tear the brother down or lift ourselves as 'knowers of better truth'. We are all equal before God, sinners in need of salvation, and we have to share Gods truth not use it as a club. We must do all things with love for our brother (or sister) even when it comes to confronting their error. Do it with love, do it to save them, reject the error but not the brother, and do it with open arms to receive them when they accept the correction of your brotherly rebuke...

Now as for those whose purpose is destruction of truth, and elavation of evil......

Acts 8
Simon the Sorcerer
9Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, "This man is the divine power known as the Great Power." 11They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. 12But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw. 14When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized intoc]'>[c] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money 19and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."20Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

We must be spiritually discerning even in saving a brother from error with loving rebuke or clearly pointing out wickedness with righteous condemnation...

Amen! But do you think we should get God's permission to rebuke or reprimand someone? As you know, not everyone is qualified or is the best person for the "job".

That is why we need to study so we can become workmen for God, "rightly dividing the word of truth."

2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

True. But I rarely feel impressed I'm the person God wants to rebuke or reprimand someone who is preaching error or living in sin.
