Yeah, it sounds like they botched things up. However, I can see breaking the law to save at-risk children from horrible circumstances. For example, in cases where everybody knows things are bad but a technicality of the law prevents would-be do-gooders from doing the right thing, I think breaking the law makes sense.

I don't think breaking the law made sense in this instance, as being caught has proven it to be.

But they didnt even try to follow the law, it wasnt a technicality. They tried to take the children and lied when they were caught, that they were at risk orphans, when in reality they were fine in their village away from the earthquake with their parents when they came across them and they came up with some story to take them. I have a feeling there was a horrible trickery or ulterior motives at work here by the leader...

Oops! I didn't mean to justify their actions. I meant to describe a hypothetical situation where breaking the law makes sense to me. Sorry for the confusion.
