Nah the Canadians shipped the leftovers south & by November the unsuspecting folks figured out what to do with um. (Just don't let Ed cook - cajun turkey - HOT HOT ... pass the ice water- "sorry - white man can't do that - Frigedaire wont be invented this century, have some pumpkin and fan a while.")

Or how Squanto taught John standish to dance the two-step and speak for himself.

Hey an extra holiday, visit up north and eat thanksgiving twice. What do you guys like to eat for thanksgiving anyway ? You havent boiled any B-vitamins recently have ya ?

Well, I see Daryl beat me to it, but Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians anyway! I just noticed it on the calendar this weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!!

By way of Thanksgiving food, we eat the same traditional thing everybody in the States does!

Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!

I spent my Thanksgiving at a family reunion near Acton, Ontario. Would you believe it--it snowed!

Anyways, I've heard that the Christmas classic "Jingle Bells" was actually written to be a (US) Thanksgiving song.

Happy Festival of Booths!

I don't know about "Jingle Bells" but "Over the River and Through the Woods" couldn't have been written about any other holiday.

If you eat the traditional foods we Americans eat at our Thanksgiving, what do you vegetarians substitute for the turkey? It's a dilema every vegetarian faces every year. If you have a good recipe, put it in the Healthy Diet and Recipes forum.

CBC Radio actually interviewed the owner of a health food store here in Fredericton concerning their vegetarian turkey product that they were selling which was made from tofu.

Since my husband mentioned this morning that turkey hunting season has started, I had just decided to ask! Guess I don't need to after all.

I do want to add though, in response to Joan's post, that the first Thanksgiving wasn't celebrated until the year after the Pilgrims arrived at Plymouth. They had had a very hard winter, followed by a drought the following year. The crops were ready to die, when they held a day of fasting and prayer, asking God to save them, for they knew they would not live if they lost their crops. That very day it began to rain, and continued for 10 days, saving their crops.

However, it was the practise of the Pilgrims to give thanks to God even when things didn't go well. We could all learn from this. We are all far too quick to complain about the hardships we go through. Yet I doubt that there is anyone on this continent, even the homeless, who is as destitute as the great majority of the world's poor. By comparison with the average person on the face of this earth, and throughout the history of this planet, even the poorest of us is incredibly wealthy, despite the high taxes, etc. And we scarcely realize the degree of persecution of Christians that is going on righ now. More Christians were martyred for their faith in the 20th century than in the entire history of the Christian church previous to that. How much we all have to be thankful for! But even greater reason for thankfulness is the constant presence of our loving Lord with us here and now, and the promise of an eternity spent in His presence. And all the glory and splendor of heaven, plus eternal youth, strength, and good health is only a bonus.
