This morning David Gates released another video message. In this one he reviews the reasons why this year's Pentecost could mark the start of the latter rain - June 9. This is sure to bring a negative reaction from most Adventists, but in addition to the reasons David gives to support that, consider also the following:

1) Modern Jews believe that God will send Elijah on one of their feast days. I agree that they do have scriptural grounds for believing that the feasts are still prophetic.
2) Over a hundred denominations have been praying the prayer of Christ, "Thy kingdom come", for the last week or so. Their prayer vigil culminates on June 9. They are also correct that the prayer of Christ for the establishment of His kingdom will be answered by the outpouring of the Latter Rain and they are correct in linking this to Pentecost.
3) Gate's last prediction that this spring would mark the start of major trouble appears to be on target here in the US with the unprecedented flooding, tornadoes etc. NOAA issued a report not long ago that the food supply this year could be significantly affected.

Elder David Gates should read what Mrs. White says about time setting. In attempting to set dates and times, he causes sensationalist reactions which do not result in any eternal good. The result will not be what he might expect, and he will find himself one day before the Judge of all the earth to answer for why he has chosen to ignore Ellen White's clear counsels on this.

I will note also that fulfilled predictions do not always validate their predictor as being a reputable source of truth. Satan also makes predictions which are correct at times. Remember the Witch of Endor.

Instead of focusing on when apocalyptic events will occur, God's people should be focused on (1) personal readiness and standing before God to meet eternity; (2) sharing Christ with those around us; and (3) praying that God will give us more time to reach the lost--i.e. both hoping and praying that the end times have NOT come upon us yet.

Charity, I'm disappointed that you would support Gates' time-setting by posting this here. We should not give anyone platform to spread such erroneous messages. Ellen White could not be more clear on this issue, and you are not wise to ignore her counsels.

The latter rain is just as unpredictable as the coming of Christ, according to Ellen White. She says plainly "we are not to know the definite time...for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit." One cannot get a clearer message.

Either Elder David Gates, and by extension Charity who has added his influence to this, is painfully ignorant of what Ellen White has said, or he thinks to know better than the prophet. Either way, I would not like to be in the shoes of anyone promoting such errors when the Judge calls them to account.

Charity, put plainly, your work in this is opposite to the work Christ would have you be doing. It will "greatly retard the work of God in preparing a people to stand in the great day that is to come."

His Child also needs to pay attention to these facts.
