The great prophets, like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Moses, did not fully understand this mystery? They were given great revelations but something about this mystery they fully grasp. It wasn't until Jesus came that the mystery began to unfold.
It was Jesus, talking about the kingdom of heaven in parables that said:
" I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world." (Matthew 13:35)

God had revealed much through the prophets, and through the sanctuary system, preparing people to accept the greatest gift heaven had to offer: the Son of God, the Creator of all things to appear in this world taking upon Himself the humanity of the created. But for them it was still a great mystery both the event and the realities made possible by that event. They could not fully understand.

Though the NT brings this mystery into a clearer focus, we still don't fully understand.

But why was it a mystery, why not make if plain for all to see and understand. Could the devil somehow interfere if it was made clear..

The devil can't interfere in God's plans. Yes he can cause people to reject God because God has given all his sentient creation the ability to be free moral agents. It was a mystery to the Jews of His day because of all the trash they had covered up the good news of the gospel with. The Talmud is prime evidence of this.

Hope this helps.

The mystery of God.

We deceive ourselves if we think we have the full grasp of it.

It is still a mystery to most people today. Oh, we try to define it by examples of human practices, but all of these fall short. All of them focus more on human achievement which humans offer to God, rather than to the grand truths of what God has done and will do for His trusting people. Only by the power of the Holy Spirit can we begin to be awed by the great plan of redemption.

EGW comments:
Quote
To save the transgressor of God's law, Christ, the one equal with the Father, came to live heaven before men, that they might learn to know what it is to have heaven in the heart. He illustrated what man must be to be worthy of the precious boon of the life that measures with the life of God.

The life of Christ was a life charged with a divine message of the love of God, and he longed intensely to impart this love to others in rich measure. Compassion beamed from his countenance, and his conduct was characterized by grace, humility, truth, and love. Every member of his church militant must manifest the same qualities, if he would join the church triumphant. The love of Christ is so broad, so full of glory, that in comparison to it, everything that men esteem as great, dwindles into
insignificance. When we obtain a view of it, we exclaim, O the depth of the riches of the love that God bestowed upon men in the gift of his only begotten Son!

When we seek for appropriate language in which to describe the love of God, we find words too tame, too weak, too far beneath the theme, and we lay down our pen and say, "No, it cannot be described." We can only do as did the beloved disciple, and say, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." [1 John 3:1.] In attempting any description of this love, we feel that we are as infants lisping their first words. Silently we may adore; for silence in this matter is the only eloquence. This love is past all language to describe. It is the mystery of God in the flesh, God in Christ, and divinity in humanity. Christ bowed down in unparalleled humility, that in his exaltation to the throne of God, he might also exalt those who believe in him, to a seat with him upon his throne. All who look upon Jesus in faith that the wounds and bruises that sin has made will be healed in him, shall be made whole.

The themes of redemption are momentous themes, and only those who are spiritually minded can discern their depth and significance . It is our safety, our life, our joy, to dwell upon the truths of the plan of salvation. Faith and prayer are necessary in order that we may behold the deep things of God. Our minds are so bound about with narrow ideas, that we catch but limited views of the experience it is our privilege to have. How little do we comprehend what is meant by the prayer of the apostle, when he says, "That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." [Ephesians 3:16-21.]--Review and Herald, Nov. 17, 1891.

This mystery could only be revealed by Christ, that's why it was not really understood in the ages before. For no verbal description could reveal it.

I'll let Ellen White answer that question:
"God Reached Humanity Through Humanity.-- Christ alone was able to represent the Deity. He who had been in the presence of the Father from the beginning, He who was the express image of the invisible God, was alone sufficient to accomplish this work. No verbal description could reveal God to the world. Through a life of purity, a life of perfect trust and submission to the will of God, a life of humiliation such as even the highest seraph in heaven would have shrunk from, God Himself must be revealed to humanity. In order to do this, our Saviour clothed His divinity with humanity. He employed the human faculties, for only by adopting these could He be comprehended by humanity. Only humanity could reach humanity. He lived out the character of God through the human body which God had prepared for Him. He blessed the world by living out in human flesh the life of God, thus showing that He had the power to unite humanity with divinity (RH June 25, 1895)

"To bring humanity into Christ, to bring the fallen race into oneness with divinity, is the work of redemption. Christ took human nature that men might be one with Him as He is one with the Father, that God may love man as He loves His only-begotten Son, that men may be partakers of the divine nature, and be complete in Him (RH April 51906). {7BC 927.3} .

How little we understand the implication of those words!

exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think!!!

What does that mean to you? God, who created and rules the immeasurable universe, promises us that He will work in us, strengthen us through His Holy Spirit, and live in us by faith.

That indeed is a mystery. How God can connect us to Divine power strong enough to conquer evil principles, overcome sin, and live for Christ.

With a God like that, eager to uplift and save. why do people say they "can't let go of some sin.

It means exactly what it says. God's goodness and love are beyond our imagination. I've been coming to understand just how good for the last year. The love of God goes far beyond our imagination. I think our knowledge of just how loving He is will grow throughout eternity.

Why do people say they can't let go of sin? Because they have always studied about God and not to know Him.

Our text for this week may interest those who are studying how different translations render texts differently.

Which translation best represents the message Paul is presenting?

Ephesians 4:1-2 I ...beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, NKJV

Instead of "vocation" (which KJV uses) the word "calling" is used.
This calling was explained by Paul in the preceding three chapters. Through the Holy Spirit people are called to partake of the grace of God, and to join into the fellowship of like believers in Jesus Christ with no ethnic or ritualistic barriers, to reveal the character fitting a follower of Christ, to share the gospel with the world, and partake of His glory.

I ...beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; KJV

The New Living Translation gives a thought translation

I...beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other?s faults because of your love. NLT

I urge you who have been chosen by God to live up to the life to which God called you. 2 Always be humble, gentle, and patient, accepting each other in love. NCV

I...exhort you to live in a manner worthy of the calling with which you were called: 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, putting up with one another in love LEB

So I am asking you to live a life worthy of what God chose you for. 2 Don?t be proud at all. Be completely gentle. Be patient. Put up with one another in love. NIrV

I... implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,
2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love,NASB

Paul, beseeches, begs, exhorts, asks, implores us......

to, walk worthy, lead a life worthy, live up to the life, live in a manner worthy,

with all lowliness, meekness, longsuffering, humble, gentle, patient, humility, gentleness, patience,

bearing with, forbearing, making allowances for faults, accepting , putting up with , tolerating each other in love.

The message is for the believers in the church to live lives of trustful submission to God, which shows in their gentleness and patient self restraint as they deal with the provocations of others.

This is NOT a call to tolerate sin, but a call to be loving, understanding, seeking to help, uplift. Having been forgiven we forgive, having been lifted up from our own pitfalls, we seek to uplift others.
Self is put aside and we work with Christ for others. Unity of the spirit is only achieved when the Holy Spirit is directing our lives and molding our hearts.

SEVEN ONES
One body, one Spirit., One hope, One Lord, One faith, One baptism, One God and Father of all.

The Holy Spirit gives special gifts for building up the church. They were given "for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ." (Eph 4:12) We all have our task, though our task may well be different from our neighbor's task.

The goal -- "till we all attain the unity of faith ...unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ."(Eph 4:13)

God is working to bring His church into unity of one faith. There is "one faith", but we all realize that our grasp of this faith is imperfect. There is "one Lord" but our knowledge of Christ is incomplete. There is one baptism, but do we all realize what that one baptism signifies? The goal is the attainment of true faith and knowledge "till we all attain unto a perfect man". (Eph.4:13)
The singular "man", as Paul is talking of the church, the one body of Christ.

Salvation is all centered in Christ, He is the head. It is one hope, one faith, one baptism. There is only one road to heaven. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. (John 14:6) There is only one true Holy Spirit that works on our hearts and minds to bring us into this one and only way to eternal life and reunite estranged mankind, as many as will believe, with God our Father, the Creator and Sustainer of all.

So the Holy Spirit enables apostles, evangelists, pastors, teachers (Eph.4:11-13) and gives other gifts in order that the church may attain both the full knowledge, growth and full measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.

Ephesians 6:10-18
6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places
.
6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

STAND -- the word is repeated to emphasize -- STAND,
It is a serious command -- to STAND in a very serious battle.
It doesn't say "fight", it says STAND!

What does it mean to Stand?

There is a strong force seeking to overthrow us!
The battle is REAL, not with the clash of bombs, tanks and guns, but very real spiritually, emotionally, and mentally.

What can we do to stand?

There is only one source of strength that enables us to STAND.

First, we are to put on the armor of God.

Paul says, "Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." The clear implication is that if we do not put on the whole armor of God, we will not be able to stand.

We cannot stand without this armor, which, again is not metallic hardware, it too is figurative language for something very real. Something very necessary if we are to stand against the constant thrusts of the devil to knock us down, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

Second, we are to pray. The armor can't fully protect us, if we are not connected with the power source. To stand, we must pray. Talk to God about everything in our life, lean on his help, seek His Holy Spirit to enlighten our minds and hearts with His Word. Engage ourselves directly and personally with the God who is our strength and our help.

Third: we need to watch.
Don't lay back, and close your eyes, thinking all is well. Watch and pray that you enter not into temptation. Watch with perseverance.
