If This Were Your Last Day Of Life......

If, somehow, you knew that this would be the last day in which you would be alive, what would you do on this last day?

No one is brave enough to answer this question? If I knew this was my last day; it is tempting to say a "right answer" for this question; but I think I would have to say, that I would likely spend the day at home, with family and friends.

THAT is one thought provoking question! But, I,too, believe that what would be of importance would be similiar to yours, David. First of all, I would want to make sure I had complete peace with God, and that any wrongs had been made right. And, if I could be so fortunate as to have my children and grandchildren, and all my "adopted" children with me, I would want to pray with each one, and tell them how important it is to me that I will see them again. And, even on that day, if Jesus has someone that He wants me to share His love with, I feel that would be so important. So, I pray that tomorrow I WILL do all of those things that I can, for we do not know what day it may be. In Christ's Love, Dora

I have used the soldier icon for this post so I can feel more "protected." I am going to use a little honesty here - it is in no way indicating criticism of anyone - except, perhaps myself. Part of what I meant by "the right answer," was "making all wrongs right," and when I first read this question of Daryl's; I immeditely thought, "Well, why don't I live like that now? That's why I didn't answer this question when I first saw it. Why do we think of this as having to wait till our 'last day,' to 'make things right?'" To tell people we love them? To minister to others? In other words - I feel that the more one answers to this question; the more they describe the way we should be living everyday - now. Even if it isn't our last day. (I hope someone gives me flowers before I die. I won't need them at my funeral). Dora, you have stated some really important principles of the Christian life, in telling us what you would do, if it were your "last day."

David, That was MY thought, even as I was posting, but, was afraid it might be taken the wrong way if I said it. But, it is TRUE. Today is the day we are to live as though it is our last day, for we are not promised tomorrow. Maybe these posts on here will make us all more aware of that. I sometimes have realized that I have "existed" through a day, without really living it. Our little "preparation time" for eternity is so short, we don't want to waste it. I think that is why we shouldn't let a day go by without telling our loved ones more than once how much we love them. My children and grandchildren never hang up the phone without saying, "I love you," and I do to them, for who knows? there might not be another chance to say it. Who needs flowers at a funeral, David? I want mine NOW, when I can see and smell them!! Loving acts of kindness, thoughtful ways of helping, comforting the sad, and encouraging the mistreated and neglected, listening to the hurting, these are the flowers I can give, and like to be given. Thank you for that honest post. I would like to see others' ideas on this. In Christ's Love, Dora

Dora Here are some electronic flowers for you! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! I like to put Scripture to ideas that come to me. In regards to living this day, as though it were your last; the following comes to mind: Eccl.9:10 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Does anyone else have a Scripture that would speak to this subject?

I started to look for scripture, but a story I once heard keeps coming to mind in this context. I don't know if it's true or not. St Francis of Assissi was hoeing his garden, and someone asked him this very question. He continued to work in silence for a time, then replied, "I'd finish hoeing my garden". While we might all want to be surrounded by loved ones if our death was imminent, I think God would want us to finish hoeing our gardens. Don't you?

Dear David, Thank you for my electronic flowers!! Now, I have flowers for Christmas, and every day! And, I wouldn't need them at my funeral! I, too, got to thinking about scripture, and as we have been talking about making things right, this text came to mind: Eph.4:26."Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: 27 Neither give place (an opportunity) to the devil." I think those verses are very relevant for me, for this is the area the Holy Spirit has had to work with me so much. And...it is my husband I have to always apologize to! But, I do think that whole chapter is such a good one for everyday living, and if it were the last day, we would hope that is the way we are striving through Jesus to live every day. In Christ's Love, Dora

Dear Zyph, Yes, I like that story on this thread! Although if it were me, I'm almost sure I'd throw down my hoe, and if I couldn't see my children and grandchildren because they are so far away, I'd be on the phone with them. My husband, well, he's one "laid back" person, he hates gardening, but loves electrical work, so he would probably just keep right on installing that fuse box, or whatever he was doing. In Christ's Love, Dora
