Hello Daryl
My Mom has had glaucoma for years now; and I have looked after a number of patients with the disease, in my past nursing careers. I would be happy to offer whatever info I could.
I was a little confused by your posts so far though. Have you actually been diagnosed with glaucoma, or do they currently suspect it?
If they suspect it; and you have to wait several months to see a specialist, and get an official diagnoses, then that may be a serious risk to your quality of eye sight.
If I was in your shoes, I would spend whatever money I had to to get a quicker diagnoses; unless you already know for sure.
If you have been diagnosed, going without the prescribed drugs may be extremely risky to your eye sight. It is something you cannot afford to monkey around with; unless you know 110% that some alternative will definitely work for your condition...As long as the eye drops, in particular, are used as prescribed; with NO variation unless the doctor says; you will be very likely to have a good outcome like my Mother who can still see very well, and is able to knit, or use computer.
I have seen sevral glaucoma patients go blind, because of non-compliance with prescribed meds - usually the eye drops.
For many things; it is OK to try "natural" remedies; but I would strongly advise against it for glaucoma; unless you find something really fool-proof.
Other things can be done to minimize/decrease intra-ocular preassure, which is the basic problem with glaucoma. Diet, and precautions with things like certain physical activities can preserve sight and prevent sight deterioration.
For eg...I doubt that you are, but if you were a coffee drinker, or had caffeine in other forms in your diet - you should get rid of it. Anything that increases eye pressure would have to be eliminated. Precautions in bright sunlight would help too.
If you have more, specific questions; let me know, and I will offer what I can.
At any rate; I will certainly add this to my prayer list.
