THE DARKEST NIGHT
My footsteps traced the moonlit shore,
and darkness settled into night;
The angry waves began to roar,
the wind rushed through with all its might...
It seemed as if the wrath of God
had asked the waves to hide His face;
The dark forebodings of the night,
had settled all about the place...
Mine eyes could see no stars in sight,
reflecting on the ocean floor;
And every single trace of light
had fled away- to shine no more...
Why does He hide His face from me?
..does He not hear my troubled call?
The wicked waves that rock the sea,
engulf my soul, that I might fall...
The storm, it seems- has reached its height,
how long O lord must I endure?
I've suffered far into the night,
it seems as if my fate is sure...
The pitch-dark sky was black as coal,
no light, no comfort given me;
Yet Jacob-like, my wrestling soul,
would not surrender till made free...
My Lord, I will not let Thee go,
until assurance I do find;
Your secret blessing I must know,
to soothe my anxious troubled mind...
God's Answer:
"I the Lord have heard your plea,
your cry has found its way to Me;
The darkness which has dimmed your sight,
will only last through this dark night...
I made the World, I hold the Earth,
I caused your Mother to give you birth;
I made the Ocean, I calm the Sea,
I cause the darkness in fright to flee...
The Sun appears to shed no light,
but shine it does- though hid from sight;
Though now it be eclipsed by pain,
it shall come back to you again...
Yes, in the end, the daylight breaks,
the waves are smooth across the sea;
A stronger faith the darkness makes;
the storm has drawn you close to Me."
