Sing Jesus loves me as the children are coming up to the front. Get congregation to pitch in! Make children’s story a family affair!

“Children, Obey Your Parents!...” (Eph.6:1).

Good morning boys and girls!

Can you all say our story verse with me?

“Children; obey your parents!...” (Eph.6:1).

Are there any boys and girls here that obey their parents?

(All/most hands will go up)

Well, let me tell you about a little boy who said he always obeyed his parents.

Now, this little guy was about 5 years old, and one summer day, his mom had just come from Switzer’s honey farm in Plattsville. She had several huge buckets of honey, and as Mom was putting them away, she said LOUD AND CLEAR: “Don’t you dare touch this honey! You’ll be really sorry if you do!”

Well, this little boy said astutely to his Mom: “Don’t worry about me Mom! I’ll never touch it!” “I promise I’ll stay away from it, unless you say!”

Well, little David said to himself a couple of days later: “Hey...Mom’s busy doing laundry...she’ll never see me if I just dip my one little finger in for a quick taste...

So David jumped up on a stool, dipped his finger into the honey pail, and had a little taste. Oh how sweet and tasty it was! But you know what happened after that? Well, he like that one little taste so much, he could not stop himself...he had another, and another, and another, and finally David grabbed the whole pail, and snuck off behind the cedar tree by the back porch. There, he proceeded to have a real feast.

What do you think happens next boys and girls?

Well, David didn’t even have to wait for Mom to find out. He ate the whole bucket of honey; and was he ever sick! He got really sick to his stomach, and brought up all that honey he just ate!

Not so much fun now eh?...

Mom watched him get sick too, and figured it all out in a minute...but Oh what a hard lesson David was learning. Mom figured he was already being punished enough; so she just nursed him in bed for most of the day.

What is the lesson you can learn from this story boys and girls?

And one more question: Can you guess what David’s last name was?

It was BATTLER!

I WAS THAT LITTLE BOY!

(You can go back to your seats now boys and girls....)

My mom told mer of an incident involving my youngest brother.

In th mid 60's, we lived on a farm in Wisconsin near a little town called Colgate.

There were 6 of us kids, I am the oldest, 3 boys,3 girls.
My little brother, Randy, had been watching me and the middle brother, Jim, when we would go into the pasture near the barn.
There were 6 horses kept in this pasture, and it had the biggest apple tree on the farm there as well.

Jim and I would go to this tree and sit up in the branches and eat all we wanted, then bring him a few.

Mom had told him not to go into the pasture because he might get hurt by the horses as they milled around the tree looking fir apples.

On this particular day, Jim and I were heloing a neighbor bring in his hay, and we were several miles from the farm.

Mom was in the kitchen getting supper ready when she heard a loud scream.
Tghinking one of the younger kids had been hurt bad, she dropped everything and went runnig outside to find out what the matter was.

She stopped on the porch and scanned the area, then heard another scream.

It was coming from the pasture.
Looking over towards the sound, she said she saw something that almost made her fall off the porch.
Laughing.

Randy had ignored her instruction to stay out of the pasture, and had gone in and climbed up the tree to 'graze' in the apples.

He was full, and wanted to come down, but, there was one little snag.
The horses were there and wanted apples.
Every time he would try to climb down, one of the horses would put it's nose against his rear end and push him back up into the tree.

Mom guided him into shaking enough apples down to keep them busy while he made his escape, but he almost didn't get out of the pasture, good thing he was quick, the horses were coming after him, probably to puthim up in the tree again.

Brother Gerry

If you ever get to my place; I'll make sure there's apple pie for dessert!

That reminds me of my mother's story of how my older brother, when he was small, used to lock her out of the house when she went out to hang clothes on the line, so he could eat all the butter!
