There are ditches on our street and the neighbors generally keep their yards very pretty. So I like to have the ditch mowed. But with all the rain and wetness this year (and lots of other times too) you can't put the mower there. I tried something which I like - trenching a "rivulet" down the ditch. The water running there erodes the soft earth and flows along down the street. My intention was to give the rest of the grass a chance to dry out so I could mow there.

It has worked pretty well. This spring I have had to use the clippers and weed eater because it is soggy yet, but I made the trench curve and not go straight down so it has a catchy appearance. Of course I can't touch my neighbor's ditch so it all swamps up at the edge and his grass has grown very long and unsightly.

I am hoping he will continue the trench on to his culvert so it will be uniform from my vantage point. I would like to build a little bridge over it. I got a book with bridge patterns - we'll see.
