What about going to movies? Some think it is OK and some think it isn't OK to go to movies. Should Christians go to movies? _____________________________________________ "For God so loved Daryl Fawcett that He gave His only Begotten Son that....." Daryl

What movie is it? To take this question a little further, if it is felt that it is not appropriate for a Christian to attend a movie, what about bringing one home to watch, or watching TV in general? This question affects all of us I believe, however, at the moment it particularly affects my home as we are in a debate as to whether or not to even purchase a TV. Personally, I think that there are very few movies or TV shows that a Christian would want to absorb. Many of the ones I have seen recently made me feel very uncomfortable, even when I was looking forward to the show . . . It's entirely probable that this question is one of personal choice taking into consideration where that person is at spiritually between themselves and God. God never asks of us more than we are ready to give - unlike humans .

We can start by looking at Philippians 4:8 where the criteria is set down for all that a Christian puts in his mind. Second, all of our time belongs to God and all or our money belongs to Him. We must give an account for every minute and every penny. Therefore, how will we answer when called to give the reasons for spending time and money in various pursuits such as watching movies whether it be at the theater, rentals, or on the tube? ------------------ ________________________ Even so come, Lord Jesus Linda[This message has been edited by Linda Sutton (edited December 05, 2000).]

I personally think "movie" is a neutral thing, such as "music" or "food." There is good and there is bad. It is our duty as christians to see/eat/hear that which is good, and avoid that which is bad.

I guess my question is really asking whether Christians should go out to see any movie at a movie theatre? _____________________________________________ "For God so loved Daryl Fawcett that He gave His only Begotten Son that....." Daryl

Daryl, You asked a question only you can answer to yourself. Any kind of entertainment you do is up to you. One type of entertainment is good for some christians, yet others might frawn on it. You can only do after reviewing your own relationship with Christ. Would you be willing to ask Jesus to come you with go to movie? If the answer is yes, then by all means you go. If you hesitate then you should reconsider. Won

Daryl, Is your question implying that you would not watch a particular movie in the theatre but would watch the same movie in your own home? Because this, of course, raises all kinds of issues as to "why not?". Confused, Lorelei

Hi Lorelei and others, If you all noticed, I am wording this in such a way as to not personalize it to any one individual, including myself, but rather to any born again believer/Christian. Let me answer Lorelei's question with another question: Would there be any difference in watching a good and appropriate movie, [if there is such a thing and I am not saying that there isn't], at home as to watching that same good and appropriate movie at the movie theatre? _____________________________________________ "For God so loved Daryl Fawcett that He gave His only Begotten Son that....." For me there would be no difference in watching an appropriate movie in the theatre or at home. The "theatre" itself isn't what is questionable here though, is it? Let me change you second question to the following: If you were going to watch an inappropriate film, does it matter whether you watch it in the theatre or in your home? ------------------ Lorelei:) If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
