In the mid 70's my family owned a cottage in central Ontario. Birds that God had given the ability to fly thousands of miles with aeronautical pecision regularly would smash into our front windows. Fortunately, most would just be stunned for a while and then fly off.

Once a small hummingbird lay still on our porch. I picked her up. There was no movement but I did detect that she was breathing.

Something I read in a bird book gave me an idea. I made a mixture of sugar and water and placed some of it on my finger and touched her bill. To my amazement, her straw-like tongue poked out and she took my nourishment. I kept feeding her. Within an hour she sat up and perched herself on the bottom railing of our porch.

She still took food from my finger periodically as she "practiced" her wings. An hour later she flew to the top railing--and then to the bottom. Now my family members took turns feeding the bird. By late afternoon she could fly to nearby flowers. By evening she had flown away.

I saw many more hummingbirds that summer, but I could never tell if any of them was the one I hand-fed that day.

Same thing, almost, happened when I was little kid up in Idaho at a friends place.
A hummingbird got trapped in their barn, and couldn't get out through the glass, so it tried until it wore itself out and fell to the floor. Someone found it shortly thereafter and brought it in. Someone pried it's beak open with a sewing needle while someone else put sugar water on its tongue. Soon it was up and away!

Just correcting your spelling Jason. But you are used to that aren't you!

I used to watch those little forerunners to the helicopter.
It was fascinating to watch them as they flew from flower to flower.

We had a cat that liked to try to catch them, was he ever surprised, they seemed to play with him.
As he got near eniugh to attack, they would fly straight up out of his reach, then buzz him and chase him off.

Better than any movies I watched at that age.
